I assume the answer is no but I thought I'd ask. Does anyone know when the Wellborn Road construction is supposed to be finished? I feel like it has been months since I have seen anyone out there working. I looks like all the lights are installed, those lovely medians are put in place, and all that's left is activating the lights and removing all the construction equipment. The light at Wellborn and Deacon, when first announced, was supposed to be completed in December of 2021. Anyone have any info on the construction end date?

What's the status of the railroad crossing at Wellborn and Deacon? I thought part of the delay is UP finishing that project. And the railroad is never concerned with expected timelines.

What about Greens Prairie? Construction seems to have been complete a few months now, yet they still have the work zone 30mph speed limit signs up. Maybe they're just trying to write a bunch of speeding tickets to pay for the convention center.

There is no doubt CSPD is taking advantage of the situation to write some tickets, they have been out there most every day for the past couple weeks. That said, nearly every car is blatantly ignoring the 30mph signs because the road is obviously capable of supporting the higher speeds. All that remains is mounting a few street lamps, lighting them up, and installing the traffic signal at Castlegate Drive. (At least to my untrained eye...)

Actually, the medians on Wellborn are not finished. They still need to install the plants that will inevitably die with the first freeze or next summer's drought.

The ones that survive will inevitably and dangerously obstruct views.

Does anyone know when the 2818/Wellborn exit will reopen?

Sorry, responding to meteoag

It looks almost ready. So, another 5-6 months.

It closed June 25 and was supposed to last 4 months. So of course it'll be a couple more months.

Nearly every car will ignore the 40 mph signs as well, so there won't be a shortage of ticket opportunities.

Been pulled over (got warning) there before. Have seen them there other times. I just set cruise at 30 every time....yes I am the one you are flying past.

The weeds have already started populating, so don't you worry. Those medians will be overgrown and unsightly in no time!

I just drove by Deacon and Wellborn. How is it still closed? What is going on with the construction there? This is ridiculous!

I emailed city project director and she said that Wellborn and Deacon will hopefully open in Jan with Cain closing at the same time. Made it sound like they were waiting on UP.

Yep. I have received the blessings of six or seven tickets in my life for different violations, but yet to get one for going the speed limit. I have never figured out why everyone is in a hurry.

It's the Christmas Holidays. Maybe when everybody gets back to work in January.

Neither Deacon or Welborn crosses the tracks... I think UP is their fallback excuse

Huh? They have constructed a new crossing at Deacon that connects it all the way through both sides of Wellborn. Appears everything is complete except installation of the crossing arms.

UP will open the new Deacon crossing and close the crossing at Cain Rd. simultaneously - sometime in Jan according to CoCS.

In theory up signal is ready, they will add arms when knife river/cocs tells them they are ready to unblock. The medians are currently incomplete and the inside lanes on wellborn will not be surfaced until that is complete and traffic signals are finished and the rail signal interconnect is activated.
Plenty of excuses all around.

Just a heads up after driving that area after the deluge this morning, there are 2 sections of both north and southbound lanes that are not draining. I'm not talking ponding. More like a lake in front of Dunkin' and further north. Could be trouble.

Just sharing what I was told by CoCS….

"Although you don't see a lot of movement out at the site, quite a bit of work is on-going behind the scenes with traffic signal/preemption coordination between the City and Union Pacific. In January, Union Pacific is tentatively scheduled to come make the "switch over" closing of Cain, opening of Deacon and turning on the new signals at Rock Prairie. We will put out signs and a media release when it gets closer and Union Pacific confirms the date."

They can blame the railroad for delays in opening Deacon but Wellborn isn't done. They could have completed the medians and pavement and opened up all 6 Wellborn lanes months ago…

Absolutely no reason given for keeping the two inside lanes closed off however. COCS needs to get their act together!

I've called the City twice before about this drainage problem that they made. Didn't seem like the gave a crap.

Unfortunately, it's going to take someone getting seriously injured or worse followed by a lawsuit against the City to correct this problem that they created.

The City's legal liability for financial damages will be limited, but Wellborn road will be closed again for an extended length of time while they re-build it correctly the second time.

I went by there this afternoon after everything cleared and saw that one problem is most of the storm drains have chicken wire blocking the flow with trash and leaves clogging the wire. No way any of them can drain quickly.

I think I saw the signs saying the signal lights would be active on 1/9.

That would be great. I'm looking forward to being able to turn from Deacon onto Wellborn again. I'm also ready for all lanes to be open again and am excited this will happen in time for baseball season.

Wonder if it's asking too much, or just impossible, to have traffic signals synchronized with RR crossing signals. For example at Wellborn and Greens Prairie, lights cycle regardless of a train crossing (or stopped). I mean it's almost 2024.
