Victoria Ave Traffic Circles

Im starting to think these people have meetings just to make up places to spend our tax money.

This seems totally unnecessary. Very little traffic in these areas. Very little room for future development. Seems that it would be nothing more than a cosmetic traffic obstacle.

Please speak up if you care about your tax money being wasted.

I've lived in Creek Meadows for 7 years and have never had any trouble at either of these intersections, especially Woodlake. There's like 10 houses down that road.

I agree. They have the money, so they're going to find a place to spend it. Regardless of need.

Would you rather have a stop light...? Cause you will get something, you know that.

Move over medians. Roundabouts are the new obsession

Or WS Phillips. That can be a pretty hot intersection at 730am. I got flipped off the other day because a lady thought I ran the stop sign since the white stop line if you're headed towards Fitch is set back a ways from the intersection.

Love the roundabouts. Keep it moving!

I'm not sure what these people are thinking. They plan to put 2 roundabouts within a half mile of each other on 1179, where one stoplight would do the trick. Not taking into consideration the 400+ home neighborhood they are about to build just past the second one, with all those people needing to go around both to get into town. I'm scared to see the future of roads in 20 years.

I would much rather have a roundabout than a traffic light. And I'm pretty sure when you take into account future maintenance costs and electricity, roundabouts are more economical than traffic lights. I believe I read that on the last roundabout argument thread we had on here, but I'm too lazy to go look it up.

I don't have anything against roundabouts. Im against them spending money where a need doesn't exist. There is no need for medians, lights, or roundabouts at these locations. Traffic is low and most of the land is already built out.

I'm going to disagree with you about traffic being low in this area. I travel north on Woodlake and turn East on Victoria at least once or twice a day and it is very common to sit at that stop sign for 15-30 seconds while cars zip by in either direction. Especially during commuter hours, there is a lot of traffic through that intersection. And looking left towards Wellborn Rd. cars come flying over that hill. Flattening that out would definitely make it a safer intersection.

Roundabouts create less T-Bone style accidents that cause injury, and they are less expensive to build and maintain than an stop light intersection.

Because roundabouts improve the efficiency of traffic flow, they also reduce vehicle emissions and fuel consumption. Roundabouts reduce vehicle noise pollution because they do not require vehicles to stop and start like traditional intersections.

I wouldn't be so against traffic circles if the majority of the population knew how to use them.

You know how they learn to use them? By using them.

Yes, it gets old being behind someone who stops instead of yields when there is car anywhere near them in the circle instead of flowing into traffic when there is plenty of room to proceed.

Horns don't get enough usage around here. Honk at anyone who stops unnecessarily at a roundabout (or turning right from University to SB Texas) and eventually it will get better.

That's actually the ideal place to put traffic circles. It's not convoluted like a two-lane traffic circle. It means that you can go through what would ordinarily be a four-way stop without actually stopping every time.

I ride a bike from Greens Prairie to Woodlake to Victoria and eventually back that same route and I'd say a roundabout at Victoria and Woodlake would be an improvement. As Tailgate noted people cresting the hill coming from Wellborn often sneak up on you. From the perspective of a cyclist there's a decent amount going on there (oncoming traffic cresting the hill, loss of the bike lane and traffic behind you and on Woodcreek) and a roundabout would probably eliminate most of it. Have to say I'd be in favor of this one.

Victoria and Woodlake seems like an odd priority for building a roundabout since it is three way, not four. A MUCH bigger benefit would come from putting one at Greens Prairie and Woodlake. All the Greens Prairie traffic could proceed through without stopping. Maybe they are planning to make it a roundabout when the county four lanes that section.

It's three-way for now.

Once Castlegate Part Pi: Jason vs Freddy vs Alien comes online, it will be four-way

Victoria to Wellborne needs to be improved. I'm not a cyclist, but bike lanes are needed there.

A roundabout right there isn't going to do anything to help cars cresting that hill. I'm not opposed to roundabouts, but that a stop sign would force people to slow down coming into Castlegate.

They may crest the hill at 40 but they won't enter the traffic circle at that speed. At least I would hope not. For me I turn left onto Woodcrest. And yes we need bike lanes all the way to Royder. I personally don't think we should encourage cyclists to ride on Wellborn so I wouldn't extend bike lanes that far.

From what I understand, the city is currently working on the design for rehabbing Victoria from Wellborn to Woodlake - these roundabouts are probably part of that overall design.

I think that it's a stupid to ride a bike on that road. But cyclist don't seem to care and they don't seem to care about the problems they cause when there is a bunch of school traffic in the mornings.

At least bike lanes will get them more out of the way.

It took me a while of looking at the plans and thinking, but I finally figured out that one of the main purposes of those planned traffic circles on 1179 is to give people won't be able to turn left where they can now - either onto westbound 1179, or off of it when eastbound - because of the planned medians a place to turn around.

So, if right now you live on the south side of 1179 and make a left hand turn to go into town, you'll have to make a right hand turn (because of the medians) then go down to the next traffic circle, make a 180 around it, and then head into town.

Basically, they're creating a solution to the problem they're creating.

It's pretty clear the overarching theme is to eliminate left hand turns where possible. Look at all the medians, the way they're rebuilding 2818, the diverging diamond at 2818/University and I'm sure others. Someone somewhere has decided left turns are dangerous and forcing right turns into either roundabouts or something similar is a safer solution.

Keeps at least one direction moving. In Ireland, I was stuck in traffic for a while at a round about when heavy traffic that entered the roundabout before my road intersected with it basically blocks it.

I did see some roundabouts with traffic lights.

Yeah all the medians feel like changing the problem for sure but a median into a roundabout and what they're doing with 2818 aren't that.
