I saw this post on the Food board about Wildflyer Mead company near Navasota:

https://texags.com/forums/67/topics/3388961

I know there are a few other vineyards (besides Messina Hof of course) and distilleries around here. If you know of any, post a review or info. I'd love to take the wife on a wine tasting tour. They ought to get together and have a punchcard or something where you get a t-shirt if you go to them all.

Edit: Add breweries, distilleries, any other alcohol too - I'll update this OP with a list as they accumulate below.

Breweries:

Blackwater Draw
Kinderhill (formerly Savage)

Winery/Vineyards:

Messina Hof
Threshold (Navasota)

Other:

Wildflyer Mead Co. (Navasota)

Threshold in Navasota is great. They make some fantastic wines and the winery/vineyard is great to visit. Fun stuff for kids too.

Can we throw in breweries also just so it's all-inclusive "B-CS alcohol tour" type thread?

Both breweries are good. Blackwater is consistent and Savage makes great beers, but they rarely make the same thing twice, so if you love something you might never have it again.

Best bet is to visit both.

I'd add that KinderHill (formerly Savage) makes some good beers for people that don't normally like beer. My wife's not a huge beer person but likes some of the things they put out.

Recently opened and charging $95 for blanc du bois?

Maybe it's really good! Most Texas wine is pretty over priced IMO. If the tastings are reasonably priced I'll still try it. Not paying $95 for that wine though lol

Review of Wildflyer:

Big group of core varieties to provide consistency and always a good selection of intriguing seasonals. I've had some that aren't my style as is bound to happen, but I've liked 85% or more of everything I've ever had. Better yet, the owners Jeff and Chelsea are great!

Chapelton is very nice. The owners have invested A LOT of money there, and the prices reflect it.

The winery manager is from California and it's run like a Napa winery -- reservations preferred, tastings or bottles only, no single glasses.

They now have a chef but I have to say their food is not that good and ridiculously priced.

They only have one estate wine for sale now, the rest are made from grapes grown elsewhere. Next year I believe they will have two. They had a good tempranillo harvest recently that they'll use for their red blend.

Brenham is home to Brazos Valley Brewing.

I'm not a craft beer expert but I've liked most of what I've had there.

I've been to Texas Star in Chappell Hill and Saddlehorn Winery in Burton. Both are pretty good stops if you are doing a wine tour.
