Did it ever get purchased by a company that was going to turn it into a Boutique
hotel? Is the basement bar still open? What about the Elixir? We have tried several times to go there and ended up at Proudest M. Or All the Kings Men. We
Over having Sunday brunch there.

Both 5 Knocks and Downtown Elixir are both still open.

Edit: I looked it up. They were bought by New Castle Hotels.

Marriott bought it. Gonna invest several million in renovations. If they get the LaSalle and the Hilton fixed up, that would be nice. The Hilton was crap 20-30 years ago. I can't imagine staying there now.

Is that where you can get steaming, greasy plate of enchiladas with lots of cheese and onions and a guacamole salad in old downtown with iced tea and a waitress and she will smile every time?

I talked to someone - and they're 'modernizing' it - ALL new everything... the person saw a mock up & it's UBER modern with floating shelves. I've not been to the La Salle - but I have heard it's got old world charm.

If my opinion, hidden gem of a bar in town! Cocktails are great and very quiet and chill atmosphere.

If that's the case, it's no longer the La Salle.

It was like stepping back in time when hotels had class and staying in one was a treat.

Thanks for the input. Supposed to meet friends for dinner there - how's the food?

Food is good. They took a couple of my favorites of the menu after it was bought. The corn and crab dip is an excellent starter.

Including the sound proofing and windows......

That damn train almost made me jump out of my bed when we stayed there it was so loud...and I live 2 blocks from a pretty active train track in Houston.

We live near tracks, as well.

I felt like I was in My Cousin Vinny.

5 Knocks is a really cool speakeasy bar! Kiddoc and I did a drink-mixing class/tasting there. It's where I realized I like gin!

Please don't screw up the LaSalle! It may need a refresh, but keep it old school. And please keep the name.

Stayed there about five years ago, and it was both very cool and a little dark and creepy.

Definitely needed some upgrades at the time.
