Watch out: You may get a call from City of CS to sweep and collect trash down your Rd

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I openly supported my neighbor on KBTX TV regarding her concerns about her inability to turn onto her own driveway because of the new medians built on Greens Prairie Road,

Approximately 3 weeks later, I received a call on my cellphone from "Trey" from the City of CS who asked me about the pile of brush placed along Greens Prairie Rd, I live on a Private Road along with 11 other families.
I replied that I do not haul brush since it is a long way for me to the Road and then he asked if I knew who placed all the brush there which happened on the week of the wind storm we had in late May/early June. I replied that I had no idea.

Then on July 7th, I received a voicemail on my cellphone from a "James Johnson, Code Enforcer from the City" whom I've never met nor gave my personal number to. He stated that he needed to talk to me regarding two black bags of trash left on the curb of Greens Prairie Rd next to regular trash bins placed to be picked up on Fridays. I called back and I was appalled to hear his direct accusation that I intentionally left trash on the curb and that I needed to immediately go and sweep them up; collect them and bag them up before I am being issue a fine by the city.

I responded that:
- I had no idea what could've had happened to any trash on the curb, speculating about last Thursday storm or vandalism(?) I don't know;
- I questioned him how he knew my number since I have never authorized anyone from the City of College Station to directly contact me other than via mail;
- I had no obligations about sweeping trash down the road and how dare him to talk to me like that.

He proceeded to threaten me with a fine if I didn't comply with his baseless and absurd request.
I reiterated that I properly disposed of my trash in the container issued by the city and have not violated any of the city codes.

After this call, I contacted the same main number to file a formal complaint against this "Code Enforcer" who is clearly overstepping his boundaries. "Betty" the receptionist transferred me back to Johnson again so he could fill out the complaint against himself(?)
I contacted the main number of the City after that. No answer until Monday they said.

Question: Have any of you ever received a call from the City to go and sweep/collect/bag trash from the street where you live?
Question: Have any of you ever received a call from the City directly on your cellphone without providing any info or authorization to do so?
Question: Have any of you felt retaliated against by the City after addressing legit concerns publicly?
Thanks

From the city of College Station website "Utility customers are responsible for most sanitation violations." Your phone number is probably listed on your utility account. I would be curious if you are the closest utility customer to the issue.

I highly doubt you are being retaliated against. I watch the news regularly and can't remember the specific story you are referencing.

If true, it would not be surprising.

City of College Station aren't even the ones adding all the medians. That's txdot. And they get your phone number from your utilities. You're just being paranoid.

1) I live on a Private Road off Greens Prairie Rd along with 11 other families. We all place our trash cans at the end of the Private Road on a corner of Greens Prairie Rd.

2) The fact that I wrote a number on the Profile Information of the Utilities website does not imply consent for them or any at the City to informally contact me regarding any issue. IF they believe they have a case "against" me, they should contact me via mail and make it official instead of bullying me and threatening with fines over the phone.

3) I do have the voicemail of Johnson leaving a message, along with the recorded conversation with him and the office staff transferring me to Johnson whom I was filing a complaint against.

Was it your trash and did they find your contact info in the bag?

Saw that happen on Lone Star Law and the game warden contacted the trash dumper based on a bill found in the bag and made them come pick it up.

Not taking up for the government thugs, but no one needs your permission to call you. Heck, I was in Hillsboro 2 weeks ago and got a call from Hillsboro PD about flying a drone. No idea how they got my number. Even better, they called my wife 3x and left a message before calling me. All 6 calls were placed in a 2 minute window.

This whole thread is pretty dang entertaining. Thanks for the laugh, OP. Feel kinda bad for the Code person that had to deal with you

Thanks for pointing this out.
Very helpful indeed.

Actually, this link took me to the Answer by the City of College Station (verified account) where the same person also complained last July/August. The City responded that THIS AREA IS RURAL therefore it was closed. No basis for this claim.

Closed Code Support (Verified Official)
The Code Officer reported that this property is zoned Rural and therefore the city's accumulation ordinance does not apply.
08/01/2022

More importantly about this latest so-called "claim" -I received an unauthorized call by the City- accusing me of improperly disposing my trash.

I can only offer so many educated speculations as for why the trash would be scattered at the curb when I properly disposed of mine in its proper container.

i.e. after windstorm??? vandalism???? or even now considering a "special beef" that a neighbor may have with me.
I don't know. I don't care.

Bottom line: I, or any resident cannot be held responsible for acts beyond their control regarding this issue.
More importantly this "ordinance" does not even apply in my zone.

Trash bags were being placed there as early as June 1st. Source: the kbtx news video OP was in.

So, basically the city of College Station did exactly what they were supposed to do in following up on a complaint about trash being dumped reported by a citizen. Props to CoCS.

I can't stand those trash cans there, especially during the construction period. At one point, they were literally in the street, causing cars to have to swerve around them.

The one they closed didn't have your id in the trash. Zoned Rural doesn't mean you can throw your trash on the side of the road.

If someone dumped a couple of trash bags next to my cans in my neighborhood, I'd put them in the cans, and go about my business. I sure wouldn't be raving on Texags about it.

What part of my post lead you to conclude that I DISPOSED off those trash bags on the side of the curb.... since allegedly last year?
Also, the baseless accusation that I am leaving brush pile down the road?
All of these accusations are being placed on me.

It is not right to put the blame on the good ole' the "Mexicans" down the road "did it".
Disgusting.

In a matter of a day…
Complaint online had a picture of trash that identified the owner
CS acknowledged that they assigned someone to case
You were contacted to pick up your trash

Doesn't take Sherlock to figure this one out

OP sounds like the wind blew over your trash can leading to a complaint to the city and thus your phone call. Here's some helpful tips to prevent a repeat in the future.

1. Don't leave your trash can out overnight if you can help it. Always put it out the day of. Sounds like in your rural area you have to move the can a ways, which is a pain I'm sure, but minimizing the time it's out on the street is good for everybody.

2. Don't throw away receipts or anything with your name on it. This is a recipe for ID theft. We burn all that stuff. If you have a fireplace it's easy and you can even do it during burn bans. If you don't have a fireplace invest in a crosscut shredder and destroy your receipts that way.

3. Be nice to the public servants, they're just doing their jobs.
