Looking to have someone come out and give us a quote on a roughly 8-ft x 12-ft in-ground pool.

Has anyone had a similar size pool built and can vouch for any local companies that specialize in these type of builds?

Mobley is the best around these parts.

Mobley…
You might think about how hot the water will get. Our regular size (20,000 gallon) gets up to 93ish in the summer.

Give Sunshine Fun Pools a call. I had a great experience when I built mine a few years ago.

Valid point - I heard that with these smaller size pools that a water-cooling feature is essential for the TX summers, does yours have this feature?

No it does not. We did buy a "fountain " type sprayer that attaches to an "eyeball" that sprays the water up in the air and it cools it some. Really not an issue with us but just a heads up.

We put in a full size pool in 2020. South C/S. The pool guy did ours and did a fantastic job.

We looked at the chillers/coolers. Besides the cost (which I could have stomached), at the time the coolers he suggested were pretty large units. Think 2-3 times your HVAC outdoor unit. We didn't have enough room behind our pool equipment wall for it without it sticking up and being an eyesore with our layout so we passed. I'm sure they make smaller units for smaller pools and this may not be a problem but worth asking about.

Our pool is cool until August when the water does get into the low 90's. We have a fair amount of shade.

Also, if you go w a smaller pool do not get a dark plaster / finish. Will make it even hotter. Go as light as you can.

I have a smaller pool. I also had several (4) fan sprays and a water feature that run on a timer for 2-3 hours before sunrise, when it's the coolest, and the pool never rises above 85 in August.

If you're looking to save money by going smaller you should know there is no discount for a smaller installation. Every company will charge you their minimum price and there won't be much room to negotiate.

Mobley, Sunshine, Pool Guy have decades of experience.

Small body of water will be warm in TX almost without fail. Shallow pools heat faster and darker (typically seen as more luxurious) plasters will only increase the heat gain. Aeration systems and cooling systems are not likely to help a ton but will increase your project cost, sometimes significantly.

Best of luck with your project.

We have a small-ish salt water pool (33k gallons) built by sunshine in 2007. Deep end is 9-10 feet so it's deep which kept it from getting as hot as shallower pools, but still routinely got mid 90's in August. We had "dark pebbletech" in it originally, when we did our outdoor addition in 2020 (kitchen, bathroom, bar, living room) we decided to replaster and add mosiacs. We went back with regular, old school white marble and it has helped a ton. Past 2 years we never got above 90, and only got to 90 once. Most times in mid summer we are in the 85-88 range which imo is perfect.
