Timely thread, our little countertop ice maker that we bought a couple of years ago for a family vacation died just this week after pretty much daily use ever since. 1 year warranty, lasted 2.5 years. It was just like
this one, only branded "Northair". There are very similar ones sold under a number of different brands. (they make hollow "bullet" cubes, not "sonic"/nugget ice) We usually filled it with filtered water from the fridge dispenser, had no problems from that.
Saw the Frigidaire EFIC237 nugget ice maker on Amazon, seemed like it would be a nice upgrade, but too pricey (for me) at $399. Then checked costco.com and they sell the same model for $199, UPS ground shipping included. Gonna give it a try, reviews say it's noisy, so it might get relegated to the laundry room.
