It's time for me to get a new suit. The ones I purchased from Shellenbergers 20 years ago were great, but it's time for a new one. Any experiences with Squire Shop or either local retailers? I'm looking at eithe MTM or nice OTR that can be tailored. I know their really are very few options locally.

I know you said local but it's totally worth it to go to Indochino in the galleria. About a half day commitment.

This is the correct answer. Indochino will change your sartorial life. There is nothing in town that comes close to the experience and product you will receive from Indochino. A made to measure suit, complete customization freedom, and less than the price of what you're going to pay for an off-the-rack suit at The Squire Shop or the mall.

I have set up probably close to 10 of my friends with Indochino at this point, and those who never had a desire to wear a suit are actually enjoying it now, and those who wore suits occasionally are slowly getting addicted to them.

I go to the Galleria sometimes, but I actually prefer the one in Austin (The Domain). They'll both be great, but I like the guys at the Austin store a bit better and the area is nicer. If you are unfamiliar with custom suits, the experience is actually going to be fun if you do Indochino. Take a friend or significant other and make an afternoon out of it.

If you need further guidance/recommendation/insight on the process, let me know.

I needed one recently. I was in San Antonio, and tried all the big stores/malls/etc. The selection of pants was horrible. Never could find my size to go with the jackets they had. And, the fit on most of the jackets were usually not very good..

Finally, I went to the Men's Wearhouse in San Antonio. They had just about every size pants to go with each jacket. I wish I had started there instead of wasting an entire day at all the other stores.

Unfortunately, the Men's Wearhouse is closed down in College Station. I thought the entire chain was gone, but apparently they only shut down certain stores.

I just bought stuff from there. Don't think they are closed.

Jos A. Banks closed, but unless it closed in the last week Mens Warehouse is still open.

My son used the Thai guy in Houston based on a recommendation from Chris Field. The suit was perfect!

A few years ago Chris posted either here or on FB that his Thai friend would be in Houston for a week measuring for custom suits. Since my kid lived in Houston, it was easy for him.

Funny thing is I forwarded the info but never heard back from the kid. Then for some special occasion he had on the suit; I complimented him and he told me he got it from the Thai guy.

Fit like a glove.

Bobby (the Thai guy) is great but he won't be back for a while. He was just in Texas recently.

It usually gets posted here when he's going to be in Houston/Dallas/Austin.

Bobby is making a trip back to Texas to visit his daughter and will be available for these dates. Not sure if he's adding any DFW ones or if that will just be family time.

Houston - April 25 to April 30th.
College Station - May 1st to May 3rd
Austin - May 4th to May 6th.

bobbygaria@gmail.com for appointments.

What's the turn around time ? Avg cost?
chrisfield

Turnaround time on my last order was probably about 45-60 days or so. Not sure how post COVID world might affect that.

Pricing varies based on materials chosen but this roughly what I recall from my last order (again, pre-COVID so not sure how costs might have changed):

Custom shirts - $50-100
Slacks - $100-150
Blazers - $250-500
Suits - $500-800
Tuxedos - $700-1000

I will say these are the nicest clothes I've ever owned. I travel quite a bit for work in these dress clothes, and I have yet to go somewhere where someone didn't compliment me on my wardrobe. The fit is perfect, the materials are excellent, and the craftsmanship is great. Can't recommend highly enough especially if you've never been fitted by a true professional.

I ordered this winter and turn around was even faster than before. Bobby makes some nice stuff for sure.
