I've been living and working in CS for a few years now, I figure it's time I find the right church to be a part of. My name is Mike, I'll be 33 at the end of February. Single, never married, no children. I don't subscribe to any particular denomination, though I have no reason not to attend one. I'm interested in finding a church that focuses on teaching a full understanding of the Bible rather than singing and shouting "Praise Jesus" all day. I'm also not here to fund another home remodel for the pastor.

Anyone know of any good congregations?

You're welcome to come visit us on Sunday afternoon.

We meet at 4PM at Vision Mission Church between Baron and Fitch.

https://www.incarnationbcs.org/about-incarnation.

After the service, we have a short hospitality period and the kids have Sunday school and the adults are studying the Gospel of John.

We attend at the Creekside campus. We learn about the bible and have several ways to connect with bible studies kicking off this month.

There are several campuses in town and all of them are places to connect with and grow in your walk with Christ.

My wife and I tried most of the churches around town and Grace was honest and different comparatively.

God bless you and I hope that you find a place!

Feel free to dm if you have more questions.

I second this. A really warm place with great folks, liturgy, and reverence for Gods word. It's small so easy to connect and not just feel like a number.

There are a couple of other Church of Christ options - one by Furniture Source Intl and one across SW Pkwy from Allen Honda. I agree that you'll find simply presented, easy to understand and thoughtful Bible teaching, and no-frills, stirring song worship.

Sounds like you are looking for a reformed church. Grace Bible, Westminster Presbyterian, Mercy Hill, and Redeemer are the ones I know off the top of my head.

Mercy Hill and Redeemer are relatively new churches. 3-5 years old. The membership base is solid for both.

Westminster had been around for close to 40 years.

I hear good things about Grace, but have never attended. They have several campuses to choose from.

We are members at Bethel Lutheran Church (LCMS).

Home | Bethel Lutheran Church (blcbcs.org)

Based on the description of what you are looking for, I'd say that we would be a good place for you try out. We are all about the Word.

Regardless of where you end up attending/joining, I pray that you find a church home that provides what you need spiritually.

I have been attending Restoration Church Bryan for some time now. The pastor preaches the word of God clearly and concisely. Through this church, I have been presented with a great community that loves Jesus and each other. I have seen the Lord work miraculously here and would love for you to visit.

I encourage you to watch Jerry's sermon from 1/23/22 to see if you might be interested in checking out Christ United Methodist Church. Sermon starts at 27:50.

I would very much encourage you to visit us at Bethel Lutheran Church. My family and I attend the contemporary service at 11:15am. The pastors preach biblical sermons, not "prosperity gospel". They also have wonderful bible studies at 10am on Sundays, Wednesday evenings, and there is a men's bible study group that meets during the week as well.

Edited to include the website: www.blcbcs.org

If you are serious about finding a church I would suggest taking the next two months and devote Sunday mornings and make a priority to go to one church every Sunday without exception. After seeing and being a part of and gaining information about the church and what it has to offer you you can narrow it down to two or three and take the next few weeks to find the comfortability you are looking for

Another consideration:

Wait until spring when some churches might resume potluck luncheons. Sample the feasts. Pick the church with the best cobblers and lemon bars

I would recommend Holy Cross Lutheran Church in College Station on Sebesta Road behind the Mercedes dealership on the bypass. Come check out the new sanctuary and hear the Gospel every Sunday. Best of luck in your search for a new church family.

You can watch our late service (more contemporary) at 10:45am on Faithlife.tv app, if you want an idea of what a service is like without talking to anyone first.

Would you be interested in attending one of the Episcopal churches in town? St. Andrews, St. Thomas, St. Francis. The format is Old Testament reading, hymn, New Testament reading, hymn, Gospel teaching, sermon, Peace, Offertory, Communion, and Blessing. Communion is offered to all baptized people but it's not mandatory. The readings all go together to reinforce a specific lesson or theme. So it checks your "Bible based" need. By following the readings and the liturgical calendar the worship follows a pattern throughout the year. For me, I like knowing that I can go into an Episcopal or Catholic church and be able to follow right along.

I don't mind it now, but honestly I wasn't a fan in college. I went to st Thomas Aquinas in college.

I agree with the church of Christ comments regarding a Biblical base. I attend A&M Church of Christ and have been very happy. Great classes, preaching, and singing.

We attend Faith Bible Church. It is a little bit of drive, but easy to get to, we are in Wixon Valley.Take the Bypass to Hwy 21. We are a fast growing church, with an amazing friendly, welcoming congregation. Our pastor preaches directly from the bible (we are currently going though 1 John). We would love to have you join us. If you do decide to attend and want to "know" someone, please let me know and my husband and I would be glad to meet you there and have you sit with us. https://www.brazosfaith.org/

No room for humor on this board? I got a TexAgs mandatory vacation for a link to an article on funny congregation names. Really?

IN ALL SERIOUSNESS, I faced this same decision almost 20 years ago. I created a spreadsheet with names of congregations down the left side and criteria along the top, then started filling it in based on research; I perused websites, made calls to pastors, assistant pastors, youth pastors, parishoners/members, etc. and then scored each one based on a the numeric assessment they received in the respective criteria box and... WIN! We ended up at Westminster Presbyterian (moved since then).

usually works pretty well for comparing options as long as you accurately define and assess your decision criteria and then weight each criteria honestly and appropriately.

you can fudge any of those and force your numbers into your previously selected/preferred outcome

Prayer works well too in these decisions.

Another vote for Bethel Lutheran. We are a Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) affiliate so if you are doing research, make sure you figure out which Lutheran denomination the church belongs to. To put it nicely, there are some Lutheran denominations that have fallen well away from the the original Lutheran tenets.

Good luck with your search and I pray you find a church home that welcomes you and helps you grow in your walk with Christ.

Agree. And God will open the right doors and close the wrong ones. You will know when you are where He wants you to be.

Been going there since college. It can feel too big at times, but we admittedly haven't ever tried to get deeply involved.

I understand, it can be difficult. If you are a guy, I'm organizing a men's trip to Colorado this summer. Feel free to reach out to Trey dot marchbanks at gmail and I'll give you the info.
