How long do you want to ignore this user?

I'm young and good health. My previous insurance I would just go to an urgent care if I felt like I was very sick. Now my insurance requires me to pick a PCP and I can only go to them. After a super nagging injury running that's been bothering me for awhile tried to see a doctor. However since I am a new patient all these doctors are requiring wait times of over a month. Anybody switch recently or get a new one and have recommendations? At this point I figure I'll just continue to try to wait out this injury but I need to find one that isn't extremely booked up for the next time a situation arises.

Thanks

Dr Spencer BS&W is good and has been ours for 5+ years. I rec most anyone in that BS&W ecosystem. I like "MyBSWHealth" online so if your having any issue you can send message online and they will send you to a specialist sometimes without having to go in person.

For that kind of injury go see a sports medicine PCP like Gill or Destefano.

The first rule of having a PCP without long wait times is to NOT tell other people about them.

I have been seeing Dr Barrow for over a decade at BSW. He does family medicine and sports medicine. I originally started seeing him for a knee injury back in college. He has been excellent for everything since.

No idea of his wait time for new patients or if he is even taking new patients right now.

Unfortunately, specialist can't be a listed PCP for insurance purposes. If OP is having to pick a pcp, chances are he will need to be referred to an Ortho doc.

That's not common when it's a FP with a sports medicine focus. Which both that I mentioned are. In addition- pcp referrals to specialist is only for those on hmo plans in general. Most have PPO that don't require referral.

Personally I would not care what initial wait is. I'd schedule an annual physical with a recommended PCP doc who has a short wait for existing patients. You'll only be a new patient once but the follow up care is what really counts.

Be sure to ask if you'll always/almost always see the doc or if a Physician Asst or Nurse Practioner will step in, if that matters to you. It might not.

Dr. Mark Florian is my doc, and he's great.

CHI has a small building on Boonville across from Target. There are 3 or 4 doctors located there. I went for my first appointment, same insurance requirement, and I didn't even sit in the waiting room. I had to finish my paperwork after I saw the doctor. I was very happy with them.

If you are in BCS you should know that there are waits for everything here; and it's only getting worse.

It seems like BSW is having difficulty retaining staff. Lots of turnover and not an urgency to replace them.

Try looking for specialist. Your initial appointment might be 9 months away.

Don't wait over a month to establish care with a new pcp. You have the availability to call in and request an acute visit now regardless if you have a pcp currently. Your injury will allow that to happen before you have to establish care. Don't wait. Your wording when making an appointment is important.
