In your experience, which is the better bang for your buck? I'm not really looking for specific cuts of meat; I'll work with what I can get. With the cost of groceries rising, I thought I'd try out one of these places for meat purchasing, but would rather go to the one that will have the better deals. What are you opinions on one or both of these?

If your goal is value, probably Rosenthal, but I've never asked them at Readfield's like "hey what's your best meat for the least money."

But I love Readfield's. We go there pretty frequently. Mother in law even ordered the family prime rib for Christmas last year from them.

honestly if i were shopping for value alone, the bulk packs at HEB, repackage and freeze is your answer. As for quality, value and convenience the answer is Readfields. I love that place.

the hamburger patty boxes at Rosenthal IMO is damn good. It's not maybe cheap, but the patties aren't all fat.

I've not really bought bulk at Readfields, just cuts here and there

I'm pretty sure that the 2lb packages at Rosenthal are a better price. Readfield is almost $5/lb right now for ground meat. I'm not sure of the ratio.

I prefer Readfield 99% of the time. It's not always easy to get on campus for me. Plus most everything at Rosenthal is frozen so it's not convenient for quick cooking.

I know that Rosenthal has good prices on their boxes. Readfield does offer a box but you have to ask about pricing. Readfield also has a freezer rental if I'm not mistaken in case you don't have room to store it all.

Rosenthal is my preferred beef jerky though.

Rosenthal has great meats and other products. Not only are you getting high quality, but you are also benefiting the Meat Science programs at A&M. We especially like the burgers!

Are the prices the same for Rosenthal meat through brookshire Brothers?

I was just going to ask this. I saw brookshire's has a pretty good selection of rosenthal's boxed meats. Didn't really pay attention to prices though.

Readfields. I dearly love this local family biz, and will support it through thick and thin.

I love both Readfield and Rosenthal. They are different in their mission and purpose, but really great meat can be purchased at both!

College Station High School also has a meat lab and makes and sells a variety of meat products. This semester, we custom processed about 10 pork carcasses. I'm looking for animals to process in the spring semester (not wild game). We use K&C in Navasota for harvesting, then bring the sides to our health-department inspected lab. If you'd like to see more, follow us on Facebook at CSHSmeats or check out our website: www.cshsmeats.com. You'll find my email on our websiteplease reach out if you have anything specific we can cut or make for you, or if you have a steer/heifer, sheep, or goat that we can custom process for you. We could even find one for you to buy if you are interested in a side or quarter.
