I would think you could buy them new way cheaper than paying to have them honed.

Like $20 a pair new, right?

Unless you're just wanting to pay a craftsman for the service.

I believe Fastenall sharpens drill and mill bits. It may be worth a phone call to see if they do blades.

Only places I've known about are in Austin and Houston. We Typically shipped cutters to them and had about a 2 week turnaround.

I'm dumb in this arena. I've researched buying a bench jointer and it seems that straight blades are cheap. I know helical heads are that pricey. What I'm a missing that blades are almost $200?

Benchtop blades are cheap but when you step up to larger machines the blades and general maintenance is more expensive.

Darrin, I used a gentleman out of Killeen that comes once a week and sharpens scissors for several stylist in town. Unfortunately I cant remember his name since I upgraded everything to helical heads, but if you call or stop by any hair stylist I'm sure they can give you one of his cards.

D- come by and see me or text me. I can do these for you.
Walk softly and carry a big stick! Make sure the big stick makes big boom noises and flashy bright lights.

probably not.... THese require a special jig because they're 6inches long and the entire edge surface needs to be all sharpened at the same time..

Problem is the jig is like $100 from what I've seen...

You asked for suggestions. I gave you one. What is the harm in inquiring? Or did you not actually want suggestions, and just want to complain about how expensive it is? Either way is fine.

Stepping up to a Shelix head is life changing, they are pricey but once you consider the long term savings you'll never look back. Grizzly carries them and often has free shipping.

Advantages - basically four sets of blades, quieter, if a nail accidentally goes through just turn the effected teeth, extra teeth are inexpensive, no fighting alignment, and less tear out

Disadvantages- Initial cost

Darrin is a grouchy ole guy. Let him gripe about the cost!

lol. he is more than welcome to gripe about the cost. I have no qualms about that. Scott frequently gripes about the cost of his woodworking equipment (and the cost of lumber these days)..

but don't ask for suggestions if you dont want them lol. Also, I would assume a bladesmith would potentially be one of the few people who would be able to sharpen something like this.
