With Field House Sports closing, does anyone know who around town will have sports camps or day camps that will have a lot of kids? I'd like for them to be able to have fun this summer and not just be couped up. Anyone have great ideas or weekly camp preferences? I'll sit back and listen...

Loved FH, but i think even without Covid it was doomed with its location being so far out. I believe Ty is working as an assistant coach somewhere now. Really good dude and hoping he finds his next chapter in life to be as good a dude he is.

My children are older now, but we attempted to expose them to a variety of activities all summer long so as they grew they could discover what most interested them. I don't know how many of the following are operating esp due to the virus restrictions, but here are some we enjoyed over the years:

BV Children's museum & BV Natural History museum both had a variety of summer camps as did the George Bush Library.

Every one of my children progressed through the CS summer swim program and also were in a variety of their summer offerings--tennis, etc. Check the CS Parks and Rec website for what's available.

My oldest spent at least two summers participating in a week or so of activities at the ice rink.

Every one participated and enjoyed both the summer enrichment (through June) programs and the summer sports camps available through CSISD. They had a hard time picking which classes during enrichment there were so many different ones! Some were inside, some were outside. The microwave snack class was a big hit when that was offered. The sports camps were the same way. They did all of them at one time or another and many of them they participated in until they aged into the ms/hs camps. Usually, there was info through either the CSISD portal, or through the booster club sites.

There were also some camps they did through A&M but with a higher price tag, they only enrolled in their main interests for those. Sports, math camp, computer science, etc.

Millican Reserve had some programs too, I think, and they looked interesting, but we just never got around to them.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some of the places and activities, but overall, our children enjoyed their experiences and they aren't the most extroverted type of personality. Especially with the enrichment classes at the elementary schools, the instructors made it fun and friendly and age appropriate.

We also spent time exploring parks that were not in our neighborhood just for something different.

Best wishes for a fun and active summer.

Signups have started for Central Sports Camp June 6-9 for 1st - 5th graders.

Approximately 30 sport options for the kids to participate in.

All the local schools will have sports camps like basketball, football, softball and volleyball. Depending on where you live might want to check into those. They are usually a week long and fairly inexpensive. Might just contact the schools athletics department and see if they have dates yet. Most will go down to incoming 3rd graders, just depends.

I'll be curious to see if the schools host this summer. Bryan Viking camp a couple years ago had a good turnout and I'm not sure they will want that many kids right now

I know CSISD was asking their coaches to start setting dates in hopes of having them. Pretty sure Bryan ISD was too. Now, do they happen? Who knows. But I'm pretty sure they are being talked about. For what it's worth.

I would recommend CSISD Summer Day Camp. Things were a little different in 2020 but they have lots of things to keep kids busy all day.

I have coach friends that know Ty well and financial reasons weren't why he closed it. He had an opportunity to coach and took it. Didn't have a buyer for the business so he liquidated and closed it.

Yep. The coaching bug started when he took the Somerville job and then backed out. He went and interned for a year with the Lions (Matt Patricia was his connection from New England days) then this past year was offered a DL coaching position. So he took the job and since they couldn't find a buyer for the whole joint they liquidated instead.

Not speaking for his family one bit here but I'm sure they wanted to get out of that house as well for personal reasons. That was the impression I got anyway. Wouldn't blame them one bit either.

We'll be having Camp Millican again this summer out at Millican Reserve! Some details still need to be hashed out but information should be posted on our website sometime soon.

It's been many years, but I did YAP Camp every summer from 6th grade onward. I (my parents) heard about it through the Duke Talent Identification Program. Not sure if registration is open or requires some sort of qualification.

I second everything Oogway said. I do not know if any of these are planned this year, but I am hoping some will be available. When our son was that age he enjoyed several of the local offerings.

CSISD summer day camp - we tried to mix this up with other local camps so it wasn't the same thing each week.

Allen Academy - he did a theater program for a week there one time. They had some other choices as well.

Bush Library - enjoyed this one each year. I believe he attended in an election year once and they held a mock election and inaugural lunch.

Camp Adventure - this was a two week camp through TAMU Dept of Kinesiology. He loved this one. They did archery, canoeing, pickle ball, all kinds of outdoor and recreational sports activities!

Hope this helps.
