How long do you want to ignore this user?
My college-aged daughter needs to make a little extra spending cash but doesn't want to get locked into a j-o-b right now. She has ridden with a friend who delivered Favor and enjoyed it, so she wants to try it herself. There are lots to choose from - so I told her I'd solicit feedback and see if anyone here had input on positive and negative feedback on these (and any others I've forgotten).

TIA!

Favor is good. I like Door Dash too.

Flavor Runner: It can be interesting, so just be advised. I knew someone that did it. The tasks can vary, such as get me 25lb of brisket from the butcher and bring to this location.

My kids friends say they make more money delivering for Door Dash. They both delivered for Favor. I think a lot has to do with availability. Not 100% (trying to go off memory) with at least one of the companies, some of the pay may be scaled based on demand.

They cant make too much because they are always eating at my house.

We use Door Dash and GrubHub most of the time.

My son does Instacart on weekends for extra money, he loves it! I've used it myself twice and it was great.

Thank you. Yes I should have clarified in the OP that I was mostly wondering about who would be best to WORK for and which one would likely make the most money.

But I very much appreciate all the input!

I'm no expert, but I think one can sign up to deliver for multiple agencies

Like Lyft/Uber drivers

I've done Doordash quite a bit and I like it. Just tell her to avoid making pickups from the McDonalds on Southwest Parkway and Texas. They get orders wrong regularly or can't find the order, and they shut their card machine down early, so when you try to pay for the order (to be reimbursed by the Doordash customer), you're SOL if you don't have enough cash on you. I've had very few successful pickups from that one. The other ones are awesome though

I have no personal experience but I've looked into it a little bit and read that the way to make decent money with food delivery is to be on multiple services at once, i.e. be "logged in" for jobs on both Favor and GrubHub so you have more frequent work.

Instacart is a minimum $7 per shop, I believe. Plus, whatever tip you would get, $.60 per mile over 3 (?) miles and then bonuses for things like heavy orders (bottled water cases, dog food, etc.). I think there is also a bonus per order on alcohol, but you have to go through training with them to get that approval. A benefit of Instacart is just being able to leave at the door and not interact with customers. Taking the time to shop would likely be a negative, but I guess it gets your steps in!

Instacart sounds good but they require you to be able to lift 50 pounds, and while I'm sure she could I'm not sure I want her having to carry a 50 lb bag of dogfood up three flights of stairs. So she'll probably stick to food delivery.

Being logged into multiples sounds good though... I had an Uber driver who said he stayed log into Lyft too for the same reason.

Makes sense! But, if Instacart is of interest, you can see the items you would be shopping for before you accept the job, so she could always steer clear of selecting ones with heavy items.

I would imagine grocery shopping would be busier during the mornings and afternoon and food delivery in the evenings and late night.

My son tried Postmates. I don't recommend it. He ended up doing about 2 deliveries per hour only during peak lunch/dinner hours. He spent plenty of time sitting in his car doing nothing because there were no orders.

Daughters BF did Favor. It was ok and he could make 50-100 bucks a day depending on how long he stayed out.

I understand that door dash is the best, but My kids couldn't sign up for it. They weren't accepting new folks a couple weeks ago.

I get that it's a college job and respect that but I've hired a lot of people and this wouldn't be experience that would make me consider her, even on an entry level position. Pay is one thing if it's needed but I'd focus on something that jumpstarts a career. Just my 2 cents

Ordered through Instacart a handful of times for my 81 year old mom during early COVID..... I tipped well and the shoppers seemed happy..

She has worked two jobs already - Bahama Bucks and CCC Warehouse. Enjoyed both, but with Covid and a heavy class schedule, she just wanted something with more flexibility right now. She rode along with a friend doing Favor and thought it was fun and easy, so decided to try it.

Door Dash is not taking new "Dashers" right now, but she signed up for Instacart, Favor, and Grub Hub and is going to see which one she likes better. I'll update the thread!

I think Shipt also pays $7 per order plus the shopper gets 100 percent of any tip. They do HEB, Target, Kroger, Petco, and Walgreens. The shoppers can pick up an order and decide they are going to do it. I think they see the details before they decide to accept one. I have gotten deliveries from them but don't work for them so don't know all the details. Normally they will text to say they are starting the order, if they have a question (something is out of stock), when they are done shopping, and when they leave it at your door. At least for now, I think contactless is preselected so only contact with customer is text messages.
