My family is looking to move back to College Station this summer and I would love some opinions on the middle and high schools. I know that both Consol and CSHS are very good academically, but I would like to know about your experiences at each school. Do you recommend one over the other? We have homes we like that are zoned differently and we want to know if the school makes that much of a difference.

Where they are zoned now isn't a guarantee about where they will be zoned in the future, so I would look at what neighborhood makes you the happiest.

I've had kids at both schools within the past 5 years. Academically, my kids had very similar experiences at both schools. Each school has strengths and weaknesses in certain areas. If a particular program is important to you, we might be able to give feedback on that program in particular.

One difference that I saw was that Consol seems to have a significantly larger variety of active clubs than CSHS. I have to guess that that is simply due to CSHS being relatively new.

If you decide that one school is the one you want to be at, your best chances at not being rezoned from that school are to make sure you live within a mile to a mile and a half of that school without having to cross any major roadways. As long as you don't qualify for bus service at your desired school, but would require bus service to the other school, you're a lot less likely to be rezoned.

Find the home and neighborhood you like and don't worry about it.

My daughter enjoys math and science as far as classes go and for extracurricular, she likes cross country, track, and swimming, if that helps.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone.

Consol is the only school with swimming, CSHS has a much better cross country program. Both will be great in math and science

While this used to be true the old board has been turned over and the leader of the iron fist has moved on to a new school. Let's hope that we don't have to deal with this again soon unless there is a real issue. I hope the doctoring of numbers to fit an agenda are a thing of the past. This school district needs healing after the way the last mess was handled.

My advise for OP is look at what is best for your family and do your best to hang on. That is what most of us did and got treated as trash. Both schools are good but are very different as stated above. Problem is in past if a woke agenda needed to be addressed it was priority above the kids. It was very nasty ending in one board member telling students that he represented they were just numbers to him. Don't expect to stay where you invest but I have to hope the removal of many of the issues has to help your future.

Welcome to town and the schools.

If your child wants to swim but lives in a CSHS-zoned area, they can transfer to Consol since the program is only offered there. You have to provide your own transportation in that case. If they transfer to swim but then decide not to stay with the team, I think there is at least a theoretical possibility they may have to go back to CSHS. I don't know how likely this is, but get the feeling that the district has been a little stricter with transfers recently than in the past. The Aggie Swim Club is also good for swimming, but it of course has a different vibe, purpose, and schedule than a high school team.

With the manipulator gone from the board, I think there will be more logic used to zone the schools, but it's going to happen and it's never going to be easy.

With both high schools...and the third...being so close in proximity to each other, it's going to be impossible to strictly base attendance on geography.

That's why I said to pick the neighborhood and not the high school.

It doesn't matter because zoning occurs
