Blackstone and RNL. Any others that build quality spec homes in the B/CS area in the 350K-500K range?

I've been in homes built by both of those companies. I think you'll find better builders at that price point.
Ambit Homes does great work. Very flexible to your needs and owner is hands-on with each home.
Blustone is definitely run by top notch folks. Hands down, good people.
I'm not certain what the starting price is for some of these builders below (Blackstone as mentioned is nice as well; not as familiar with the others), but I have been in and seen some nice homes from them:

Mariott built our home in Indian Lakes. It was a flawless, incredible experience from start to finish.

All of them are only as good as their subs. Most of what they're doing is managing/supervising those subs.

Agreed. Just moved into an Ambit Homes house on March 1st, and couldn't be happier.
update... I had Blackstone confused with another builder, but I have been in RNL homes as well as many others in CS. I have not been in a Marriot home, but their rep is very good.cavscout96 said:

My wife and I are always sure to visit Raven Homes on the parade. Love their work.
Raven built our King Oaks home. I dreaded going through another build, but they made it easy and fun. Their finish and trim crew can't be beat
Thanks for all of the recommendations. We would like to have something ready before the Fall - thus the need for a spec home for which we can choose the final finishing materials given the state of build allows it. Visited several spec builders as part of the Parade of Homes this weekend that have inventory under build.
After everything was said and done, we narrowed it down to three: Blackstone, Magruder, and RNL. All impressed us with their commitment to quality.
Not sure what happened to David Weekley - they used to be a player. Disappointed in their offerings.

We had a terrible experience with Blackstone and would not recommend them.

That would be more useful/carry more weight with some details. I have owned a Blackstone home and had some issues with timing, but quality of build/$sqft is very good
Any recent builds that would be willing to share a cost/sf on a custom home? I realize this is a loaded question but just curious to know about where everyone ended up. We are hearing anywhere from $125/sf and one custom option said up to $185/ sf which seems outrageous.
I would be happy to discuss our experience with Blackstone off board, but most of the issues stem from poor management decisions and lack of supervision during the build.

We observed the typical at 150/sf for a quality spec home.
We just moved into a custom and finished around $170/sq ft.
We paid $159 a foot for a custom build
Are these numbers with or without lot price?

What was the cost backing the lot out?
We recently moved into a Spirit Design Build home. David Schuler is a great and honest man and does excellent work. He doesn't cut corners and does things the right way. He was a framer for 30 years and it's amazing how he can eye something and he spot on. We almost went with Magruder but fell in love with the home David was building and we got to pick every single finish inside and out. Had we not gone with SDB, we would have gone with Magruder.
