At the board meeting today, they revealed that Wellborn Middle School's colors will be gold and black, mascot is "Warhawks".

Elementary School #10 will be named River Bend Elementary School, which fits the current elementary school naming strategy (Creek View, Forest Ridge, etc.)

Kids weren't going to pick this mascot.
Gotta order uni's for the fall opening.

The rebranding of the other two middle school will involve student input on new mascot/colors

There is, but like a lot of history, it's complicated. (The term, like the era from which it came was a volatile part of US federal, state and foreign relations). Unless it is referring to the WW II era plane. But I guess Wellborn Wookies was not an option....

Wait, I thought the College Station Cougars were named after the Cougar 6X6 MRAP?

I think more middle school kids know what a Wookie is than a P-40

For one of the KISD high schools that opened last year, I had heard that "Gorillas" was a popular write-in choice. Practically speaking, stock mascot choices are probably used because of availability of mascot costumes.

There is a school in Texas with gorillas as its mascot. Trent HS, 1A school halfway between Abilene and Sweetwater.

I know that there's all sorts of interesting legacy mascots (New Braunfels Unicorns) in Texas, but ISDs these days play things safe, and not just in "not picking politically incorrect mascots"

I am fortunate to have called two schools with fairly interesting mascots home. New Braunfels Unicorns and Van Vandals. Also, don't forget about the Hutto Hippos!
