Geez, that thing is huge! will they close the one at SW Pkwy. and Texas? looks like a battle between them and Planet Fitness in this town. what about Aerofit?

It's unthinkable that they would close the central location. If they did, I would certainly switch gyms after 20+years.

Its going to fill up with the same people on Texas. They are going to want something new just like the next guy. If you dont like the type of people that come in and work out on Texas you want like the people in the new gym.

They purchased Aggieland Fitness Dome (and will later close it), so they're going to start with a pre-existing clientele, plus everyone that migrates over from the Brentwood location.

I'd worry more about the Bryan Golds closing. It never gets crowded, at least compared the the CS one.

TP location is bigger since it will have a pool. I can't imagine that the Brentwood location would close because so many students use it. I spoke with one of the fitness managers recently and there are no current plans to close the Bryan location.

Bryan and CS will remain open.

The TP location will have a pool? That's GREAT news!

Not true. It's packed in the early morning hours and then starting at 430 till about 7.

I personally think that there is enough of a total market in B/CS to properly support three Gold's Gyms. I couldn't imagine living in Bryan and driving to the new TP location, and vice versa.

I think that the Brentwood Gold's will basically remain the same clientele, which is heavily comprised of students and early 20's folks.

The gym that I wonder about is the Anytime Fitness in the TP center.

Brentwood isn't closing.

Momkat, I'm usually there from 5-7 and I wouldn't call it packed at all. I've never had a problem getting on the free weights and cardio machines.

I can't speak to the mornings, so I'll defer to you there.

Maybe it is hit or miss from 5-7. I was there yesterday from 4:30-6 and couldn't get on a squat rack or leg press to save my life. treadmills were free though.

If the Brentwood location is that crowded, then they should consider moving to the former Kroger at Southwest Parkway for a much bigger and visible location. Old grocery stores are a magnet for gyms to set up shop...

They moved from that center to their current location. I'm willing to bet so that they would own instead of rent. If true, I seriously doubt they would move to the Kroger. The Kroger is way too big anyway

They need all the gyms, plus this one! I drove to both Gold's locations today, Thursday, and they were both fairly busy at 2:30PM, so doubt this location will be any different. Actually, betting the same people migrate to this one, freeing up the others since it's newer. Home gym is the way to go, if you can afford it. Although I realize most people aren't as dedicated to working out as others, so may not be worth the investment. Gym equipment and weights aren't cheap. My guess, it's just the influx of college students. I see a dramatic drop in gym traffic during the summer months. Also, a lot of the homes in the Tower Point area are converting to rentals. I heard A&M had 6k more students enrolled, and there is a shortage of rentals, so seems students are willing to make the drive. Which really isn't too bad. That HEB gets a ton of traffic, it's crazy, and all I see are college students mixed with young families. Surprised they didn't give y'all a Central Market with the higher income nearby. I can tell you though, coming from Austin and Dallas, it's NOT nearly as bad!

Any idea if the new Golds will have raquetball courts?

Their old location was slightly smaller or about the same size as the same size (I do remember it!)

But the Kroger isn't too large. It's 46,000 square feet, which many Gold's Gyms can (and do) move into (search "50000 square feet golds gym"), and a Washington Post article on a special Gold's Gym in Woodbridge, VA mentioned that 50,000 square feet is pretty standard for a Gold's Gym. If they can get a sweet deal on that rent (remember, they renovated and their largest tenant just pulled out) then I think Gold's would do fine there. Add a pool (which I'm sure the Brentwood location doesn't have), more courts and weights, and everyone's happy.

Ever since Golds bought out the Dome, it's been packed with students. A whole new crowd. If it stays like that at the new Tower Point Golds once my wife and I move over we will quit our membership. I've heard many of the old Dome members express those concerns as well, but I'm sure Golds doesn't care.

Today, Gold's posted under Aggieland Fitness Dome's Facebook and called the gym Gold's and said they are offering a no sign-up fee or contract and $5 off dues. I expect that will attract many college students.

will be interesting to see what happens b/c they may lose some of the "young professionals" of south college station if it fills with students. But how many students are willing to drive that far? I guess for a new facility they just might.

I wouldn't be surprised if a second gym (like a 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness) will be announcing building in Caprock Crossing. In the meantime, watch the college student population drop off slightly as New Years Resolutions start to fade and/or tests start coming hard and fast.
