Anyone seem to know a store with excellent beer temperature out of the cooler? I bring this up because of my choice, the old Chick's which is now Stripes. Great coolers.

Once you freeze beer you can pour it out. I think Stripes is probably around 35-38.

You must be drinking really bad beer if you need it to be ice cold to mask the poor quality ingredients. If you're drinking good beer, you're obscuring the taste if it's served below 42 degrees.

So because you read a "dummies" article that makes you the expert? I've been drinking beer for about 45 years and know what I personally like.

I picked the Dummies article because it was concise and not overly technical. Give something not made with rice a chance sometime, you might actually enjoy it.

and he picked it because if you're still needing beer to be near freezing after 40 years of drinking it - horse piss with a little alcohol is all you're looking for.

I brew beer, so yes I know what I speak of.

This thread. Awesome!!!

There's two kinds of beers:
Yard work beer for when you hot and nasty and need something really cold.
Then all them new fandangled awesome tasting beers. Well not technically new but now much easier to get.

You should be proud of what you are/like!

I'm pretty sure there are things one shouldn't be proud of...but that's the snob in me talking.

BTW OP, you may want to check out that thing at Cafe Eccell that keeps beer near freezing. It seems popular there.

So let me get this straight... If I like cold beer it is crappy cheap skunky beer. So, if I wanted some kind of expensive beer then I should be warm? New to me.

Overly hoppy beers. IPAs are terrible. There, I said it. Don't care.

Scotch snob here. When I hang out with my beer snob friends, especially ones from work in the Pacific NW, all I ask is: "What am I supposed to taste besides hops?"

When you serve them scotch, do they ask "What am I supposed to taste besides peat?"

Maybe I should have found a simpler explanations than "Dummies" for you. Anyone know what's dumber than dummies?

ALL beer should be served at a moderately cold temperature (in the 40s-50s) in order to maximize flavor. However, cheap beer, which has rice filler instead of barley, is often served ICE COLD to mask the imperfections in taste from the filler ingredients.

Liking beer ice cold doesn't make it crappy. You may be masking some flavor, but that's your choice. However, a beer that advertises that it should be served ice cold (or has ice cold indicators on the can or bottle) is often a good indication that the quality of ingredients is subpar.

Good beer doesn't have to be expensive. I can find plenty of great beers for about $1.50 per bottle in a six pack - Coke at the vending machine at my office is $1.75.

So what are you recommending for a good $1.50 beer? I like good beer but I'm not sure if I can think of a good one for that price. XX is my favorite cheap beer.

I meant my reply as a friendly jab. Though many that like a very cold beer, drink cheap light beer. Cheap light beer when served at the proper temp shows off its flaws. They're are a myriad of off flavors (esters from yeast, skunkiness from light, oxidation...).

I too like a cold negra modelo with lime after yard work...hits the spot. The last beer I brewed, now on tap was a Saison and a summer blonde (both very lightly hopped, easy drinking summer beers). My favorites though are typically dark - stouts, dunkels, irish red, etc.

cheers!

I would almost guarantee he's talking about a $9 6-pack from a store, not a single bottle at a bar/restaurant. It's even hard finding a $9 per 6-pack beer that most beer snobs will say is good.

If you go back to the heading of my post you will see that this has turned into a favorite beer topic. I asked specifically about good temps in convenience stores for standard american beer that you find in convenience stores. I am not here to debate beer choices or to be attacked by some posts. If you have a comment on what stores you like to buy beer at because they have good coolers...let me know.

You know what, OP? if you like ice cold crappy beer, have at it. Enjoy it. If you like more expensive, warm, and different beer, have at it. Enjoy it.

That being said, I have no idea who has the best coolers because my favorite ice cold crappy beer comes out of an ice chest filled with ice.

I like the first two, especially Hoegaarden. I haven't had the Abita Amber. Sounds like you've got good taste.

This is why there's so much hate in the world right now. A person can't even ask a question without being attacked for their preference for beer. A person has a right to chose the kind of beer they want without being bullied.
