I like going to restaurants where I can bring my own wine (or beer, depending on type of restaurant). I thought I'd start and keep up-to-date a list of such restaurants around town. I'll start it, and if you'll post ones you know, I'll add to the list at the top, similar to the comings/goings thread.

40 Tempura (Sushi, College Station, $15 corkage)
Caffe Capri (Italian, Bryan, $7 corkage)
Cenares (Italian, College Station, $?? corkage)
Los Nortenos (Mexican, Bryan, had to list it although long gone; sorely missed, great for BYOB)
Madden's Casual Gourmet (American, Bryan, $?? corkage)
Paolo's (Italian, College Station, $15 corkage)

I think Patranella's in Bryan also still allows this.

Thanks -- do you know for sure? I only want to add restaurants to the list that are known to allow BYO.

Yes Madden's HAD a BYOW policy and would even waive the corkage fee if you were charming enough.

Given that Veritas lack such a policy, I highly doubt Chef Tai will continue the one at Madden's. I hope I'm wrong.

Veritas can't do it, as it is illegal given that they have a mixed beverage permit. Maddens, and any other business with a beer and wine permit, CAN legally do it, but of course don't have to. The law is clear on the differences between those two permits.

Yes that's true, but Tai and his wife who handles the wine end of things have pretty specific views about BYOW, at least the last time I checked. Paolo's doesn't have a mixed beverage license and I'm pretty sure they don't allow BYOW. I'll go to the source and ask Tai if he plans to continue this at Madden's and report back.

Do any of the local chicken joints allow you to BYOB/W?

The reason Veritas doesn't is because they serve hard liquor as well, and therefore can't.

Chef Tai also runs Paolo's, which does not serve hard liquor, and does allow you to bring your own wine, with a corkage fee. I expect he'll continue the same thing at Madden's unless they add mixed drinks to the menu. In fact, see the menu page for Paolo's here: http://www.paolositaliankitchen.com/menu.html Scroll down to the wine menu. Before they even list their own wines for sale, they say "Corkage policy -- A dining experience can be greatly enhanced by wine of special vintage or sentinemtal value. Thus, you are always welcome to bring such a bottle to enjoy with your meal if it isn't offered on our list. Our 'corkage' fee for providing wine service for bottles brought into the restaurant is $15 per 750ml bottle. The corkage fee for magnums (1.5L) is $35 per bottle."

Paolo's and Maddens are indeed verified to allow BYO. I'm only listing restaurants in the first post that are verified.

I can confirm they had BYOB when I was there a few months ago.

This is an old thread, but just wondered if there was any updated info for restaurants that allowed BYOB/W.
