We've been Suddenlink customers since returning to Aggieland in 2008. We've just about had it with the annual price increases. This month the bill went up another $13+ or roughly $156 a year. We're considering switching all our services to Direct TV - that is - Internet, HDTV, and home phone.

Anybody got any input, either pro or con Direct TV? Anybody made this same switch and been happy/unhappy?

Thanks in advance.

Don't. DTV is outrageous on price after the first year. I remember my bill being around $140 a month. We now have Dish and pay $75 a month for the same package. We kept Suddenlink internet at $65 a month. Don't have home phone so I couldn't tell you pricing on that.

Absolutely love Direct tv. Pricing depends on your package. Their customer service is great. They'll give you all kinds of freebies when you sign up. I was stuck with suddenlink for a year and counted down the days until I get direct tv back. Their DVR is light years beyond sunddenlink's hunk of junk. And if you use my account number, we both get $100 off our bill. my account number if you want to use it is: 76744589

sign up, you won't regret it

Wire star? Do you live outside the city limits? Just curious. We currently have SL for tv/internet/phone. And when we move providers the phone will go.

Call them after your first year (when you still have a year on your contract). They will work with you! They will always give you tons of credits and free channels...especially if you're on autopay and have been a good customer. Then when you're out of your contract, call back again and they'll do even better. If not, threaten to cancel and THEN watch what they do. I just did this last week.

I don't have to do that with Dish.

When I told DirectTV I was tired of the constant price hikes (long time customer, always autopay)....they offered $5 off per month

The sad reality is they all suck.

Still ridiculous to me that Suddenlink doesn't carry Comedy Central or Nick.

They all suck and are all expensive. I have direct tv because of NFL Sunday ticket.

Both the same.

Contract is always for 2 years so sign up

A) Enjoy the first 12 months for about $45 a month. The next 12 months will be $90 a month

B) Look for the best sign up offer. If you look hard, you will see that you can get a $200 gift card for Best Buy, Sams Club, or some other big box store.

I do this every 24 months. With that you get new hardware/dvd/remote etc.

Echo Orlando's comment!!! Satellite is terrible but you are very limited with choices. Programming is just awful.

To add to my previous post...you can also talk Dish/Direct into buying you out of your 2nd year. They will pay your cancellation fee if you switch to them. Kind of annoying to switch every year, but it keeps costs VERY low.

DirecTV is the best. I dont know that I'd use them for internet, but anything beats suck-n-link.

And that's why I dropped their cable. However, very happy with their internet.

Satellite Internet should be your last option if there's simply nothing else available to your area. It's a very limited product that's expensive with very low data caps. There's a reason they advertise as an upgrade to dial up and that their ads are targeted towards people living in rural America. The product can't compete with any hard line service (cable or DSL) and it can't compete with any decent WISP product either.

I live in the sticks outside of BCS. Dish TV at least until July when we either go back to Direct or cut the cord and sign up for SlingTV, Hulu, etc. CEO Internet. No home phone. We all have iPhone's (or I will by the new year) and AT&T offers WIFI calling on the iPhone. That pretty much makes a home phone completely obsolete.

I've had all three. Suddenlink kept going up in price about every year, but no more than that.

DirecTV went up in price in about 20 months 5 times for me.

I have Dish now, and got on the 2 year price lock. The services I've had on all three have been roughly equivalent, and I'm paying about $10 less than I ever did with Suddenlink, and about $5 more than DirecTV at first, and $50 less per month that DirecTV at the end.

No changes on my Dish bill yet.

I miss South Park. But then I see all the moaning when the Aggies are flipped to SECN alt and the satellite viewers can't watch.

Call Suddenlink, ask them to look at your services and that you are considering switching because of recent price increases. They will review your account and your price will drop based on current promotions. I do this every year or 2 and my bill drops about $20 +/-

We have called Suddenlink 3 times and spoken in person with them. The last time, the best they could do was lower it $3. Our bill has gone up $50 in a year, mainly because they added a fee for boxes. I didn't want or need these stupid boxes. Suddenlink needs to get a clue!

This no longer works, even when you threaten to cancel. Reminds me of when I tried it with Suddenlink, literally made no difference.

It's not working with hardly anybody anymore. The majors have caught on and have changed their policy. Unless you have some special problems or are a VERY long term customer they are not going to make any serious effort to keep you. They know that at the same time there is a guy on the phone with their competitor making the same demands and ,if not met, he will be calling you to switch as soon as you hang up with your customer.....
