Any good?
Have a kids menu?
They ever have live music?

They don't have a website

There used to be a German restaurant in New Ulm near Brenham that was pretty popular but I can't find anything online about it.. Anyone know if it's still there or any other good German/polish/Czech restaurants in the area
TIA

Not exactly chucky cheese, but kids do ok. The owner lives in Munich, there is some serious authentic German food, although they Americanized it after the first couple of years to suit the customers. Sometimes they have live music on the weekends. Same with Murphy's law, same owner and a walk through between the two.

The best German restaurant I have been to in Central Texas is the Walburg German Restaurant & Biergarten in Wallburg.

Hackemack's Hofbrauhaus was the restaurant in New Ulm. I don't believe it is open anymore.

One of my favorites. The Polish sausage and saurkraut is excellent. Get a dunkel with it. Mmmmmmm.
And yes, they do have a kid's menu.
Live music would be next door in the Irish half, but that is some locals who have an Irish picking circle I think on Wednesdays

I haven't been to Brauhaus this summer, but they were having live music every third Saturday earlier in the year.
Last time I went I had the heaven and hell which is schnitzel with two sauces and it was pretty good, however, the salad sampler with pickled red cabbage and carrots was amazing and my favorite thing I had. I went on a live music night and there were kids dancing to the polka band so I would say they are pretty kid friendly (but not in the Chuck E Cheese way).

That being said, I've also been to Walburg and I prefer it to Brauhaus only because I feel there's more of a variety there and you can't beat the atmosphere. But I'd definitely recommend giving Brauhaus a try since it's right here in town.

Been there twice and the food was good but the service was horrible. The last time there was two other diners in the restaurant and we had to wave at our waitress to get refills and service.

The first time I actually got up and went to the back to get tea refills and she said, "Oh, let me get that for you." No apology or anything. The second time was not much better.

My wife won't go back.

It is amazing that owners and investors will put hundreds of thousands of dollars into opening up a restaurant and then not pay attention to how it is run and hire and train quality employees. Amazing.

When I lived in town me and a couple buddies used to go to there all you can eat meal night, it was pretty good back then but that has been a few years. The service was the same very very slow.

This. Which made me miss the older German restaurants that used to be here and didn't take this path.

Sounds like German style waitstaff, too.

This was our experience as well. The food took forever and it came out room temp. We won't be back.

If you're looking for good german food in driving distance then I highly recommend Burton Cafe, south towards Brenham. Really great authentic german fare! I haven't been to Brauhaus in ages but there was nothing about it that spoke authentic to me, it's very Americanized and not a good representation of what good german food is.

I agree with Kenny, and will go a step further, Walburg has, quite possibly, some of the best german food I've ever had outside of Germany.

Great German food in Burton-the Burton Cafe right by the old railroad depot. Run by German Americans and very authentic, although one of my favorites is the coconut cream pie which is clearly not German

Love the food but as I learned from German or Austrian restaurants in other places our idea of good service is different. Meals are served when they are ready. So just go ahead and enjoy your meal.

Also wasn't there a place out on 30 towards Huntsville many many years ago that was a pretty dang good German place?

Forget about German, what about Czech food? You'd think with all the Czechs in the Brazos Valley we'd have some Czech places, but for all practical purposes you have to drive to West to get anything.
FlyRod

I've lived in the Czech Republic. Czechs came here to get away from Czech food, and rustle up some good Mexican grub and BBQ.

The Black Forest Inn was in a house right off 30. Run by an older couple along with one or two students on busy nights acting as waitstaff. Reservations required IIRC, and you ate whatever they prepared.

This thread seems to have gone completely off topic. Having never eaten at the Bavarian Brahaus I certainly would welcome input about it but it seems like posters want to post about every other German restaurant but the one in the thread. Really have no interest in restaurants that are closed or an hour or more away.
Would be nice to get some objective reviews of the place.

Perhaps offering other options IS giving their opinion on that restaurant.

It's been in business in downtown Bryan for a good while now so it must be doing something right.

The connection with Murphy's Law is undoubtedly helping it.

Good selection of beer and wine. Big portion for the wine compared to other places and the price by the glass a lot more reasonable.

Nice European atmosphere. Good German music at times.

Service really varies.

The food I have had has been good. Usually get the jager schnitzel. I would like
better German potato salad....like it warm. The sampler salad is good and inexpensive.

Most of the time I find it a nice change of pace to the chains, the Italian places, steak houses, etc.

It is not great and not consistent, but it is pretty good most of the time.

Has it? The OP's last question was, .. "Anyone know if it's still there or any other good German/polish/Czech restaurants in the area"
