I'm looking for a recommendation for shredding about 20 bank boxes of documents. Can the commercial services that do this shred pentaflex folders with the thin metal hangers? TIA

I think they can but for some stuff I deal with I have to witness the destruction. Most places just give you a receipt and put it in for destruction. There is a place at Blinn on 29th that will allow you to watch it being shredded. Don't think its P7 or CSS02-01 level but at least you know it was run.

We use Ironmountain, they come to us in a truck. Not sure about the metal in the folders though. Call'em.

They have a mobile shredding truck and come from Houston to BCS. They have been great to work with and we're very particular.

I have a few boxes of papers that I need to shred. what do these services charge? OfficeMax and office depot charge about $1 per pound and I really don't want to pay that. I wish they still had the free shred event at Sam's.

Ditto. I need some papers shredded - need to see it done - and it's a one-time thing - very confidential remnants of a past work-at-home job.

Why not just burn them? Hopefully you have a friend that has a fireplace/pit in his backyard.

One of the questions to ask when looking for a company offering shredding services is, are they NAID certified? NAID - or National Association for Information Destruction, is the standards setting body for the information destruction industry. Our mobile operation is endorsed for Paper/Printed Media destruction. Our truck will shred on the premises, allow the customer to witness the shredding, and if needed, provide certification of destruction. We can schedule for a "one and done" or we can schedule on a recurring basis. Don't need the certification, or want to drop off the documents for shredding? We're a local company supporting the local community. Give us a call for more information.
