Is the compost from bvswm useable for veggie gardens?

Someone told me to watch out for the levels of heavy metals used by sw companies that they use for some reason or other...

Opinions?

I have used compost from both BVSWM & Brazos Valley Recycling. I have not tested either, but I used them in my veggie garden and I'm still alive to tell about it.

Compost from either locations is not what I would call "high quality" compost. While they advertise it being fully composted, they are in fact not fully composted. There are still a lot of wood chips and solids in the mixture. Ideally, I would use that as a base for a compost pile at my house to add greens to. I was using it to up the organic matter in my garden, so the wood chips etc. in it was OK for me.

There are many different products available that are sold as “Compost”. BVSWMA Inc.'s Twin Oaks Compost Facility is a participant in the US Composting Council's Seal of Testing Assurance Program. This program establishes the frequency of testing and analytical testing parameters for our compost product. When choosing your compost, we strongly encourage you to look for the US Composting Council seal on the product package.

They'll give you a printout of the analysis of the compost, just ask.

One of the frustrations in any compost material is the 'clumping' or large items (wood chips, twigs, etc.). Our compost is not only made of food and liquid waste, yard clippings, and horse manure; it's also turned and managed for at least 18 months before it's ever available for sale. In most instances, we screen our compost to 3/4". Have questions? Let's talk compost.
