Anyone know why they are setting off fireworks near main campus? At least the second different night I have heard people doing it.

It's a flare gun used from Lot 61.

Ah okay that might be it. I could have sworn it was fireworks, but flare gun makes sense. Wasn't doing much good, it was like a scene from "The Birds" driving on Wellborn

They shoot off whistling rockets from a car at dusk to scare the roosting birds. It sounds like fireworks.

It is indeed for bird control. Pretty useless if you ask me though, the rockets just keep the birds in the air until they stop shooting them off, then the birds land right back in the trees. They just need to close that lot for a few weekends and call open season on blackbirds. That would take care of the problem much better IMHO.
