My 15 year old daughter has been seeing him for a few years and I'm not really excited about continuing with him. She has never had a cavity so she's never had to have any work done, until now. The last couple of appointments have left me feeling very unimpressed, so I'm not sure I want to send her back to him for this procedure. His online reviews leave you wondering how he is still practicing. Just wanted to hear what others who have been to him have to say. TIA

Used him for about 8 years as did my husband. We finally quit after getting a quote for work that was double the cost of what it had been when my husband had it done 5 years prior. When I called to find out why my insurance wasn't covering any of the cost I found out that they were no longer a preferred provider for my insurance. They didn't even tell me until I specifically asked if they still were. Went to another dentist and found out the procedure with iv sedation wasn't even necessary. Paid $75 to the new dentist for what Lasell wanted to do for $1200.

Also noticed a big staff turnover last time I was there. Oh and I can't forget the time I showed up a scheduled appt and the office was closed when I called to schedule another time to come they told me they couldn't fit me in for months. Never had a problem with Lasell himself or the work he did.

Exactly what happened to us a few years ago. All of a sudden without warning, we were required to pay full price AFTER the fact. Never went back.

My employer changed insurance coverage and he was the only dentist in network. Several of us switched to him and then we all went back to our former, all out of network dentists, when we discovered that strangely we all had similar need for procedures that we had never heard of previously. Once going back to our old dentists, none of the 4 were told by our various dentists that we need any type of special procedure. Just saying....

Waited for 45 minutes once for him to come check my teeth after the hygenist cleaned them. Always tried to get me to do unnecessary cosmetic work (i.e. whitening) and just got the overall creeps from him. He's also been sued for negligence http://www.theeagle.com/news/local/article_f2202a4d-d46e-581c-9532-7eb2dfeb7d97.html

Run away.

We have been using Johnson Dentistry for a few years now and have been very happy with him. We have had a few cavities filled and cleanings but nothing major needed yet.

Dr. Burchfield is fantastic. His practice is now called Southern Smiles. Both he and Dr. Melton are wonderful. They are very sweet, and very easy going. All of the hygienists are awesome as well.

Pretty much my experience with him.

When I lived in BCS, I loved Dr. Kruger with Care Plus.

Another enthusiastic thumbs up for Southern Smiles (Burchfield and Melton). Fantastic, great dentists, really kind and thorough and fair.

completely agree with the above poster. Saw him once when I first moved here 5 years ago, want to do a procedure that required IV sedation.

I went for a second opinion and turns out I didn't need the procedure. Haven't had more than a routine cleaning ever sense.

I also had to have the IV sedation cleaning thing. I'm noticing a pattern here!

Not only did it seem completely unnecessary, but I slept for nearly two days afterward.

Anyone other Lasell patients on here that "had" to have that done? With a sample size this small, it is striking to see how many people had to have the procedure.

I was not impressed with Dr. Lasell.

I have been happy with Dr. Jeannie Williams at http://emeraldparkwaydentistry.com/, and Dr. Andy Williams at the same practice was able to remove my wisdom tooth. I would recommend their office. They don't do unnecessary stuff, and if you need a cavity filled, Dr. Jeannie is great at making the experience as pleasant as possible (used to dealing with cowards). They are located at Emerald Parkway and Highway 6. There is green space behind their office, so you have a nice view while getting dental work.

I never had to have the IV sedation with Dr Lasell and they even let me pass on the nitrous. However my husband had it done the first time he went for a cleaning. He hadn't been to the dentist in years so we didn't realize it was so strange to do that. They did an "extra deep clean" and would only do it over 2 sessions so he had to be sedated twice and I had to drive him home twice. It was quite expensive.

Then he missed a few more years of going (one of those lucky people who never get cavities) and they wanted to do it again. This time with no insurance coverage bringing it up to two more days of missing work and over $1200. Went to Dr Arents and paid $75 for a good cleaning instead (insurance did pay some of that but i think the whole bill was around $150 before insurance). No issues at any follow ups.

*I also had heard about the lady who sued after losing some fingers after IV sedation and that made me very nervous as well. I don't think it is worth taking the risks of IV sedation for a cleaning.

IV sedation for a cleaning? What occurs at these cleanings?

Wanted to sedate me for a cleaning as well. After talking to coworkers and friends who considered that very strange, I didn't follow up on it.

I'm surprised he's even still here. Here is a thread about him from 4 years ago.

My understanding is that the negligence lawsuit was settled. Undisclosed settlement. Waiting on the dental board to decide the consequences of the complaint. Also surprised anyone would allow this "dentist" to do an iv sedation in the interim. Any action by the dental board will be public knowledge. If I hear anything I will post it. Yes, she's a friend of mine.

I had him...never any personal problems with ability. But, he did charge to do the sedation gas or whatever every time I went in for a cleaning and also also wanted to do the "in depth" cleaning once a year, which is really a sham. I've since switched to Dr. Privette, who is a consummate professional who only does what is needed, not everything that is possible to bill insurance with.

I've also heard great things about Dr. Cashion in town from quite a few people...good luck!

I went to Riggs prior to his retirement and now go to Cashion. Went to him yesterday.

I would highly suggest that those on the TAMU plan pay the extra $$ to get the PPO plan. The dentist is my favorite doctor and I've never missed an appointment that I can remember.

To add to my prior post re Southern Smiles, i just returned from an emergency walk-in to have something checked before going overseas in a few days. I was seen by Dr. Melton 20 minutes after I walked in.
I place a very high premium on a dental outfit that is able to handle emergency cases.

I used him when I was 18...went in because he was the only one in my network and had to get my wisdom teeth taken out because they were impacted...lets just say he didn't use enough anesthesia an I felt the whole thing...while screaming he continued...I'm 30 now and am terrified of dentists because of him

Holy crap, that's my worst nightmare. I hereby retract my negative Lasell experience above...at least compared to this one!

I am trying to make sense of a dentist who uses iv sedation for cleanings, but didn't use enough sedation for impacted wisdom teeth? The former appears to be overly cautious, while the latter is simply terrifying.

That said, when I got my wisdom teeth cut out, my dentist sent me to an oral surgeon to make sure the procedure was done right with no pain.

I love the fact that my DDS hates pain as much as I do.

Lasell only plays at being a dentist.

Feel sorry for his staff.
