How long do you want to ignore this user?
My sister is passing through College Station tomorrow and wants to take pictures of her daughter in some maroon bluebonnets. So, 1) are there any maroon bluebonnets left in CS. If so, 2) where can she take these pictures?

I saw that the Horticulture Gardens had some, don't know if they still have them or if they would even be able to get in there to take pictures.

There's this picture that was posted by the university but no one seems to know where it is.

Thanks for your help!

The florist outside of Navasota has some. I've never seen them in the wild though.

Seven to ten days ago I could have helped you, but the ones at my house are pretty bad now. I cannot remember seeing any other stands large enough for photos this year.

As a photographer I looked everywhere for a decent patch of these but was unable to find one that wasn't on private property.

Wow.
In a decade of chasing wildflowers In Waller, Grimes, Washington, Bell, Madison, and Brazos Counties, I've never seen a stand of Lupinus texensis in maroon. I've heard of them, seen the seed at the LBJWFC, just not seen them in the wild.

Closest I've come across in the wild are Castilleja indivisa in white, yellow, and lavender (separate occasions).

This will be the first year I've not managed to spend even one day in Washington County (farthest south I've been all year is Mansfield, more's the pity). I really wanted to carve out some time to get south of Burton towards Winedale & Roundtop in the hills and valleys where the color is probably fabulous this year. Of course, I wanted a lot of things this year--and that bucket seems to still have holes in it.

I used to have my flower beds full of maroon one but it only takes a few seasons for the blue genes to dominate. I only have a few maroon and a few pale ,almost pink , ones left. The blue take over.

My maroons have already gone to seed. All the bluebonnets seem to be on their way out now. :/

If you are diligent and pull any blue ones you have that come up in your maroon stand, I believe that you can keep the flowers from returning to blue. I haven't had mine that long, probably 3-4 years, and they still come back 90% maroon each year. You need to pull them as soon as you see them to lower the likelihood of cross pollination.
