We are planning to replace our kitchen countertops to granite. Has anyone had this done recently and could recommend a good place to purchase from and install?

We've used Marble Craft for some things before with great results and better price. I'd start there.

Centex counter tops (behind the cowboy on finfeather). They are putting ours in next week. Really like them so far.

Centex. While they may not be as cheap as Marble Craft, their installers are much better than Marble Craft's. I've used Marble Craft and Old Stone in the past. Old Stone has decent craftsman, but can be unreliable with timing and I've heard more than one story of them showing up with the wrong stone selection, already cut for the job. I, as a contractor, am more than willing to pay a little extra for the workmanship and reliability. Centex has always done well with both.

Have heard great things about Marble Craft.

Terrible experience.... zero communication and when he did pick up he flat out lied 3 times!
My wife had to sit in his shop to make sure his guys finished the Granite top almost 3 weeks after he promised it would be done.

If you want the best, most hands on granite fabricater call Granite Works. They are have been in the granite business for 40 years and 20 years in the Brazos Valley. A few of their projects included the Southern Living idea home in Traditions and many of the homes of A&M Coaches.

Anybody have experience working with Discount Floors in Downtown Bryan or Brazos Valley Floor and Design Center off Old Wellborn in College Station. I've gotten a quote from both.

Carter Custom Countertops closed a few years ago but are they back in business under another name?

Hugo from Old Stone did ours, but yes, he is unreliable with returning phone calls and appointments. Excuse after excuse.

However, he is THE cheapest in price by far. That's the only reason I decided to stick it out.

A relative is scheduled to have granite installed soon, hopefully he will make good on the appointment time and date.



We've also used Discount Floor Superstore in Bryan and it was by far the worst experience ever with quoted prices versus what we were charged. However, they are under new management so I hope that's been rectified. Our experience was 6 years ago.

Another thumbs down for Old Stone and Hugo. Good price and good finished product but major errors in the install process and scheduling. I specifically scheduled with him one month in advance to make sure the date would work out. The day before the install I called to make sure we were good and his response was maybe I can get it next week. About 3 weeks and 35 phone calls after the first scheduled date he finally had everything in.

Marble Craft did our shower surround and counter and they were very easy to work with and did the installation the day it was promised.

MarbleCraft did my bathrooms. They did a great job. I am going to get them to do my kitchen. MIke Owen is a great guy. He took care of everything. Their charges are very reasonable. I highly recommend them!!!!

Don't make a $4000 mistake like me! I used another company and screwed up a marble countertop project.


Go with Marble Craft. I used them on a previous house and they were great.

Another vote for Matt O'Banion. Great, reliable work. He even cleaned up the sink cut-outs and now I have beautiful cutting boards or serving platters.

We've tried calling Matt O'Banion at the number listed here and the mailbox is full so couldn't leave a message for him. He did my countertops and I love them. Trying to find a contractor for my daughters house now.

Marble Craft did one job for us, okay fair price. However a few years later we had a bigger job and the bid was ridiculous high so we went with a place on 21 east of bypass on left. Cant remember the name, been a few years, but they did a really nice job, more work than we offered marble craft for about half the price.

...for what it's worth, my relative scheduled an appt with Hugo about 10 days ago for granite to be installed this week. They were an hour late, but it's currently being installed.

I guess it's hit or miss with Hugo. His price was $2k compared to $4k from others mentioned in this thread for this job. My own two bathrooms were done for $700 compared to $1800 others had quoted.

Price was the reason we went with Hugo at Old Stone. They can't be beat.

I am unhappy with the work done by Marble Craft. They knew I was unhappy. Came out and tried to fix it and left and said oh well!

Three or four friends who worked for builders THEN told me that hardly any builders will use them due to poor quality of installation mostly.
