The fastest thing Suddenlink has is how quickly your bill increases through out the year!

Right now I'm getting less than 50kb/s in Southwood Valley.

Happens 3/4 of the week between the hours of 10pm-3am.

Maybe I should only pay them 1/10th of my bill.

Speedtest says I'm getting 20 megabits / s but my actual download speed (to a variety of hosts) says otherwise. I think they're throttling me.

We get trashed speeds too, just like OP. city council needs to let us have real competition here.

I would be more impressed with the alleged "data" from sites like speedtest.net and others if they weren't shills for Google Chrome, and for-purchase apps like TuneUp, etc.

so now you can get a safeguard service which costs $5/mo to prevent them from charging you for service calls.

or you can get charged for a service call when it's something in the area, not specific to your house.

that's a great monopoly there.

Every single night around 7:30 or so, my speed goes implodes to a max of 1.5 down (upload always seems to be stable) and usually to around .5 down if I'm lucky.

At this moment, I am seeing a download speed of around .85.

Around 12:30 or so, it will suddenly fly back up to where it should be, and stay there or close to it until the next evening when it will crater again.

The modem is less than a year old; the previous one self destructed.

I suspect that there isn't enough bandwidth in the area and someone(s) is turning on their torrents around the same time every night.

^^ Or streaming Netflix, or playing online games...generally hogging bandwidth. It's exactly the same story in my neighborhood...and Suddenlink doesn't seem to give two craps.

They care...why else would they start to enforce usage caps?

To avoid having to provide what they sell, of course.

All of you people should harken back to the days of yore (3 years ago) when I told you Google was offering Google Fiber for some town that could get enough votes online.....

They gave it to someplace in Kansas I think.

Talked to a rather high up (for college station) Suddenlink tech two days ago after they completed repairs on my lines; they are in the process of adding infrastructure to help with evening usage increases. Also, just by calling 3 times when I was having speed issues, they brought me a new modem, ran new lines all the way from the pole to the modem, and spent hours tweaking and testing my connection.

I also have noticed the slow down in the evening with suddenlink. Over the summer everything was fine, with the start of the semester it just went to hell.

Its too bad we cant get A&M speeds.

after 6 days of an average 2 mbps, mine has finally picked up to at least something I can work with, around 10 mbps, still not the 15 that I pay for.

Just totally ridiculous about them wanting to charge me for a service call and tell me there's nothing wrong.

Suddenlink's "gotcha by the balls" service at its finest.
