For the past two days, Suddenlink has been almost unusable due to how slow it is.

Anyone else having this issue?

Yes. In fact, it didn't work at all on Sunday.

Mine's been working fantastically since they came out and re-ran the line to the house. I highly suggest that if you're consistently having problems, you call and schedule a service call. I was skeptical that it would amount to much, but they really did track things down nicely.

Every night it slows down for me from the normal 15mbs to sometimes less than .5mbs, but usually just over 1mbs. Around midnight, it will go back to the expected speed. I've called Suddenlink and they always say nothing is wrong, either with my connection or the cable modem; which was recently replaced as the old one was over 5 years and was failing. I've also had someone from Suddenlink out to look at the lines; he didn't find any problems there either.

If I try to download a file from Microsoft early in the morning, it will download at well over 1MB a second. Right now, it is downloading at 32.3kb/s, give or take a KB here or there.

I'm near South Wood Valley and it's been completely screwed for me.

I've done speedtests through out the day on multiple servers and I don't get any download faster than 100KB/s.

I'm pissed. Reset my router and cable modem, but no dice. I guess I'll have to call and harass them tomorrow but this is unacceptable.

Rapier108 - I wonder if it's anything to do with your neighbors. Possibly they are students who are gone during the day, but at night everyone is home with Netflix and what not, hence your connection tanks.

Now that you have mentioned it, I've noticed the same thing. In the evenings I can't stream anything my connection speed is so bad.

I don't mind it not maxing out, but when I can't even get 1/10th of the speed of my plan, that won't fly.

This is what I've been dealing with all evening.

Pale, that is exactly what I have been seeing, although right now I'm having a speed jump, all the way to 1.4mbs, but probably because it is getting late. Earlier it was about the same as yours.

Call them when it is happening if it is like mine and only at certain times. You might get lucky and they can see the problem.

My neighborhood is mostly families with some senior citizens and a few college students, but not a huge number. Several houses close to mine are empty right now.

I just have a feeling that some idiot is a big torrent user and completely sucking up all of the available bandwidth in the area. I even turned off my router' wireless just on the slim chance someone had hacked into it. Also tried it without the router connected in case it was the problem, but same result with both.

I even told the Suddenlink person I last spoke with that I suspected it was someone downloading a ton of stuff every night, but I have no way of knowing if they can look into that.

Just keep calling. We dealt with this issue for months and months in Copperfield. You pretty much have to become a pest and keep asking to speak with someone higher up who knows more about the network utilization for your neighborhood. Different parts of town and neighborhoods are broken down into "nodes" which is essentially a fiber feed to a hub that then feeds out to you and your neighbors through your cable. If the hub doesn't have enough capacity for when everyone starts streaming Netflix in the evenings, that's when you are seeing the slow speeds. Keep complaining and someone higher up will eventually make the call to up the speeds to your node and that will fix your problem.
Rapier108
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, I keep calling, but all they ever want to do is send out a service tech, which will do no good because he won't be here to see the problem.

They must have added a new node very recently and it is close. Before when the power would go out, my Internet would stay online since the cable modem would run off the UPS. Now the Internet drops out when the power does so I'm guessing the node is very close and loses power when my house does. Just no idea where it is.

It got to a point with us that the service techs started to realize how often they were being sent to us and there was nothing wrong. Finally the techs started to call their bosses to look into the problem. It's a royal pain in the arse but your options are limited.

I would bring to their attention the issue of the connection going down when the power goes down. All of their nodes are supposed to be on UPS backups so that everyone who has phone service through Suddenlink can still use their phones in an emergency.
Pale Rider

I must have been calling the wrong support number. What number are you guys using? I dont remember the one I used but basically when I would call after hours (when it was slow) I couldn't even get a tech on the phone.

I'm in behind the CS Walmart and the neighborhood I'm in is mixed as well. Lots of families, some older people, and of course some students - it's not like I'm in the middle of an area that is nothing but students (say like off or Rock Prarie or Graham).

It is frustrating because during the day my speeds are "decent". I'm on the basic 15mb tier and during the day I average about 10mb, but as I said at night it fluctuates between 0.5 and 1.5mb. I'm a night owl and run my business from home and do 1/2 my work in the evenings, so that means connecting to FTP or SSH'ing in the evenings has gotten to the point where it's damn unusable.

Funny thing is my upload is usually not really ever affected much, only the download.

I guess I need to start calling them every evening, because I can't really work with this.

800-825-4160 is the number I use.

877-794-2724 is the number I've always used. Probably goes to the same place. I've actually only gotten a knowledgeable tech on the line one time and all the rest are just general customer service who just setup a service tech to show up.

I was coming here to make this topic actually.

I'm pretty sure we're on a 10mb plan, and most evenings we're lucky to hit 1mb on a speed test.

Around 3am, however, I'm getting 12-13mb. It's frustrating because I don't pay for bandwidth when it's convenient for you to provide it to me, I expect to receive the bandwidth I pay for the majority of the time. If their nodes can't handle the traffic of these neighborhoods, I really just don't see where that's the user's fault.

I wish I could send them 1/10th of my payment, and claim the rest of my bank account was experiencing high usage, and they could try to get the full amount some other time.
Pale Rider
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you are on the basic 10mb plan, you received a "free upgrade" to 15mb a month or two ago. But I could care less about that when at times I can't even get 1/10th of the pre-upgrade speeds.

I used to not have this problem at all, is just something I stared to notice the past month or two.

I thought about upgrading my package, but I really don't want to give them more money when I can't get good speeds now. Man I have Suddenlink. Even more than ATT... and that is a lot.
basketaggie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We just switched to Suddenlink. We got the 30mbps package. I'm lucky to run 28-30 ver very rarely. Some days I'm running 2-6. They came out and told me everything is fine on their end, that it is my apple airport extreme as a router that is the issue. I'm not buying that. When I told the guy that 30 around town usually means 30-40 from what other board members he told me that no, I only pay to have UP TO 30 and I should never exceed. Like the above poster I want to just send a tenth of the payment, when I feel like it.

That's great momtaxi, can we get back to discussing the solution now?

I have the same issue; obviously it's increased usage in the evenings.

We're in N. CS and have the same issues. I've always just chalked it up to my son having so much gaming software on the computer.

Thanks for the info XI XI, I'll give them a call when it happens again. We don't pay for a package iwth the highest speed available, but we pay almost $200/mth for our bundle of cable/phone/internet and it would be nice not to have my computer freeze up when I'm trying to read an online article after 7p.m.

TDKmom, they're having lot's of load issues in the evenings. Just keep calling; I'm on the phone with them right now.

The rep is very nice and understanding - I explained the issue up front - and he said that calling to get it noticed is exactly what is needed.

Don't know if this will help for you, but when I upgraded to a docsis 3.0 modem, my speeds became alot more stable. I might not get my max all the time, but I have never gone below 5Mb since.
