Has anyone heard of any transportation companies that pick up and transport elementary kids from school and drop em off at a designated place? I have family in California that say they have services out there that operate like "kid taxi's". They offer door to door supervised transportation as opposed to public transportation.

I haven't heard of that here. It could be a nice part-time job for someone who has the capital to get something like that started though.

I will say that my sister, who lives in Irvine, CA, saw the need for this and filled it about a decade ago. She had several children that she watched through a home daycare. All the kids were about the same age, so when they started school, she started a service to pick them up from school and shuttle them to and from various afterschool activities. She "retired" from it when her youngest graduated high school.

Depending on "designated" location but I know Powersports pics up from the school but they go back to their location. As far as a small group of kids, I don't think there is any such service. Kids Klub is also offered at the individual campuses if you don't want them to leave the school.

This would be fabulous....

And if you start one up, would you consider a branch in Atascocita/Lake Houston?

I am not aware of anything other than the Powersports bus mentioned by a previous poster. Something like this would be great, though. My son has a lesson twice a week, and I am not able to leave work early enough to get him there. I've been hiring college students to pick him up from school and take him, and I'm on my 4th one since January. It is extremely hard to find a reliable person (the last student I hired simply did not pick my son up one day and then would not answer her phone or reply to texts), and it is very expensive. I thought paying a premium ($25 per pick up; about $12.50/hour) would get me a more committed person, but it hasn't worked out that way. Thank goodness for Kids' Club; I can't say enough about the value that organization provides! At least I don't have to worry about finding child care every day in the summer and after school. There was nothing even remotely like Kids' Club when I was a kid.

You ought to talk to some stay at home moms in your area. If they are already picking up kids at the same school I'm sure they wouldn't mind picking up another. Especially for some extra cash. I know I wouldn't mind earning a little extra doing what I will already be doing for my kid.

I thought about that, but with working full-time, I just really don't know that many other moms, especially with kids my son's age. It seems awkward to just ask someone out of the blue, and my son's school is probably the least conveniently located one in CSISD. If a parent wasn't already going to my son's school and then also going to the area where his lessons are, it would be a really big hassle. The few moms I do know are already stretched thin just trying to get their own kids from one practice/lesson/meeting to the next.

I actually think I am in your neighborhood if I'm thinking correctly. I will be taking my son to Greens Prairie starting this fall. He is starting kindergarten this year. If that's your school, I agree it is very inconveniently located.

Yep, he is at GP. It actually worked out great for me, since I can take Wellborn and then 2818 directly to my office. My work commute is very short, and I hardly ever drive on Texas Ave or Hwy 6 anymore. But trying to get him from school to his lessons is a bit more of a challenge.

I understand TXTransplant. If the college student route doesn't work out feel free to contact me and see if we could work something out. If nothing else it is always good to meet your neighbors.

You are very sweet to offer. I was FINALLY able to find a girl who can start on next Tuesday and should be able to work the entire fall semester. But, after Christmas, I might be back to square one.

It is great to meet the neighbors! I've been trying to meet more people as the new area fills up, but it is mostly the neighbors who are in the immediate area of my house.

If you ever have any questions about GP, let me know. We had a very good experience there last year and are looking forward to this year. It seems like there were not very many kids in our neighborhood who went to GP last year. I think many of the ones who started out at Forest Ridge were allowed to stay there.

Good deal. I know. It is hard to meet GP parents. Most the neighbors I know have kids too young for school and the one I do know has their kindergartener going to a different school.

what about taking the bus? I have never understood why parent take their kids to school. Ride the bus, walk, or ride the bike. What's so special about YOUR kid?

Did you actually READ the previous posts?!? No one is discussing how to get their kids to school. We are looking for options to get our kids FROM school to various after school activities in town. Buses only take kids to and from school.

And there are VERY good reasons why a child would not ride a bus. In our case, we leave the house before the bus even comes because I have to be at work early. And in CSISD, if you live less than 2 miles from your designated school, there isn't any bus service at all. Parents/kids are expected to walk or be dropped off in the carpool line.

There is no point in replying to a thread if all you are going to do is criticize the posters. We are looking for help/suggestions not snarky judgements.

Looks like a good entrepreneurial opportunity for somebody.
