Who is your current provider and what rate are you paying? Ever shop around much to see what is available?

B/CS is not in a deregulated market. Therefore no choice. However from what I've seen (the rates) from various providers from deregulated areas our setup is not a bad thing.
I'm on BTU and my electric rate from my last bill was .087(rounded) per kwh (consumption was 1327 kwh).

BTU decided their rates are below average, so an increase is imminent, or so a story in the paper last year indicated.

All electricity to CS goes through BTU lines, so rate increases at BTU lead to rate increases for CSU, I'm afraid.

There is no competition so your only recourse is to conserve as much as you can. Turn off the lights, go easy on the AC and appliances.

We pay very high utility rates in College Station. Summer rates are just under 12 cents per kw hour. This is much higher than Bryan and much higher than Houston, Dallas, or other locations where competition (through deregulation) has led to lower prices.
This may not seem like a lot but look at smoove:
Bryan - pays $115.45 with current rate
CS - would pay $150.48 during winter and $156.72 during summer.
This is quite an increase based upon living just a few miles away. It makes a difference and is only exaggerated as home size or age increases. This might not be a big deal to some, but to those who are already careful that extra $35-40 would be helpful ($400-500 a year). This is not even touching on how much extra it ends up being during the summer when AC runs much more frequently.

BTU does have Summer and Winter rates.
Looking at my last July/Aug bill from BTU and it was .092 per kwh. On top of that it does also vary slightly from month to month.

My point was that College Station is still consistently higher due to not having any other options...too bad deregulation wasn't implemented everywhere...
