I checked out the Transportation Services FAQs.
Do I need a Bus Pass to ride the bus?
On-campus service is fare-free for students, faculty, staff and visitors to Texas A&M. Off-campus service is fare-free for students, faculty, and staff. Bus passes are no longer needed to ride the bus. However, we reserve the right to check TAMU ID's on a random basis, so always have it handy when riding the bus.
Why does everyone have to pay bus fees even if they don't ride the bus?
The transportation fee funds all operating and capital expenses incurred in the operation of the Texas A&M shuttle service. Extensive discussion was held with student leaders and various student groups prior to the referendum to approve the fee. During the discussions, student leaders concluded that the fee should be paid by all and all students should have access to the service or benefit in some way because of the service. The current fee is $70 per semester ($35 for a 5-week summer term and $70 for a 10-week summer semester).
Knowing that unlimited service to all areas of College Station/Bryan is not economically practical, off-campus routes are designed to serve those areas where the highest concentrations of students live. A Park and Ride option was also developed by having a route serve Post Oak Mall and many students who do not live directly on a route drive a short distance to an area where parking is allowed and catch the bus at the nearest stop. This allows access to all who choose not to purchase a parking permit.
The on-campus service was designed to provide a transportation option to all areas of campus and is available to all. Even those students who choose the parking permit option and drive to campus benefit through reduced traffic and more parking availability.
