I used Craig Greening years ago (not for DWI), but I didn't know if he's still around through.

I used to have his number, but upon looking I don't see it anymore.

Jim James or Cameron Reynolds.

Jim James represented A&M football player Geoff Hangartner when he beat a bogus DWI charge from the College Station police.

Shane Phelps -- in private practice now after 20+ years as a prosecutor including 10 as the 1st assistant DA here in Brazos County. Great attorney and a great guy.

Also, don't go by what originaltexan says. I'm sure he means well but that fee is not standard and probably high for something straightforward and jail time is by no means a given on a first offense. You can do better. Talk to a couple of attorneys and see who fits your needs best. Shane and other good lawyers will talk to you up front about general representation stuff for no charge.

Earl Gray for sure. Former prosecutor in practice with Jay Granberry, another former prosecutor. Both are great guys, but Earl's also a personal friend.

If the accused is a freshman, I would assume that they are under 21. Remember, in the state of Texas, there is zero tolerance for under 21 and driving. This would be a DUI, not a DWI, and ANY BAC would constitute a DUI.

Just some info in case the "fishy" part of the arrest is because you thought they were below .08% BAC.

I sat on a jury in a DWI case and Jim James was the defense lawyer. He was very persuasive but in the long run his client was drunk. Based on Mr. James performance I would recommend him.

Someone under 21 can still be charged with DWI if certain criteria are met. DUI is a Class C Misdemeanor while DWI is generally a Class B.

My brother has used John Quinn, Craig Greaves and Jim James for his DWIs(I know, brother is a moron). Quinn didn't put in any effort at all and couldn't have cared less about what happened. Greaves walked into the courtroom with a dip in his mouth and a spit cup in his hand, spitting while talking to the judge. Im surprised she didnt throw him out of the courtroom. Not sure how good he actually is, but definitely lacks professionalism. Jim James is pricey, but very good.

If I were hiring an attorney to represent me or someone I cared about, I would hire Jim James or Cameron Reynolds. In fact, I have had Jim and Cameron represent close friends and relatives. Jim and Cameron are very good. I would put them up aganst the "hot shot" DWI gurus out of Houston and Dallas in a hgeartbeat. They generally have great relationships with prosecutors (More so Cam than Jim. After you have made so many prosecutors life difficult for as long as Jim has, they(we) get a bit bitter) I've tried cases against both and they will make you earn everything you get in a courtroom. That said, they also know when to cut losses and help you make a good decision on the best deal if that is what you should do. My understanding is that you will pay complete fee, up front, non refundable. It will be substantial.

I have a friend whos daughter got a DUI almost 3 years ago. Craig Greaves is her attorney. Her court dates have been cancelled and rescheduled and moved so many times its ridiculous and most if not all were because of the attorney. To top it all off, the last time she got a letter a few months ago when her next court appearance would be, they called Mr. Greaves office the day before court date to make sure it was all still on and were told yes it is, see you tomorrow. They were to be there at 1:00pm. My friend and her daughter were there, on time and ready to go and no sight of Mr. Greaves and her name wasn't on the docket for that day, so they stepped out of court room and made a call to Mr. Greaves office and were told he wasn't available, so she asked the one answering the phone why he wasn't there and why they were not on the docket when she had a letter in her hand saying she was and a verification from the attorney just the day before that it was all on go.........and was told very nonchalantly, oh Mr. Greaves had something come up and had to have it rescheduled, you should get a letter in the mail soon.
NOW how inconsiderate is that? My friend and her daughter both took time off work to make this appearance and the daughter had to travel to get here for it. No I would not call him unless you want it to drag out for the next 3 years or more with no consideration of your time.

stinkerbelle, what Craig Greaves is doing in postponing hearings, etc. can be a good thing.

Over time the memory of the incident by the arresting officer can become blurred. Also, the arresting officer may leave the area and not be able to appear in court. No clear memory by the arresting officer, no conviction. No appearance by the arresting officer, case dismissed.

One you should think about is Michele Esparza. Former prosecutor for DA and County Attorney. Board Certified in Criminal Law. She knows just about everyone in the courthouse and is very successful.

A Class B that stays on your record for the rest of your life, even if you do probation.

Personally I feel a DWI should be classified as a class A at the minimum. State felony for 2nd offense and so on.

Craig Greening. Jim James is retiring and only accepts a hand full of cases each year. Greening puts Jim James type effort in each and every case he has. That's why he knows how to evaluate a case and when to go to trial. He's a true trial lawyer. Greening's # is 979-779-2000.
