Howdy everyone!

I'm transferring in to Texas A&M in January and have AT&T as a cell phone provider. I was wondering how good is the coverage around CS? Thanks!

I have had at&t for years with no problems.

Depends where ya live. The coverage in our home in south CS is awful they sent us a mini tower but it has not helped much. Once I'm past Fitch its ok.

I'll be living off of Wellborne north of Kyle in Bryan. When I was visiting the apartments I'm going to be staying at I seemed to have good coverage, but not sure on campus.

You'll be fine over there.

on campus it's hit or miss; I have a dropped call about once a week, but that's not college station, that's just AT&T. :-)

Don't expect to be able to use your phone on game days! It takes about 10 tries to get a call through!

As a former AT&T customer, I can clearly state that my Verizon service ROCKS! Can you hear me now, AT&T?! Ooops, I guess not -- dropped call on your crappy network!... To sum up: Verizon has better coverage and/or stronger signal than AT&T in/around Bryan.

I live in South CS and have never had a problem. I occasionally drop right by Emerald Forest if I'm on the phone in the car.

I live near munson and dominick. at&t service sucks here. 2 bars max at the house, drops probably about 20% of my calls here, and i dont receive calls every now and then. I get much better service around town though. Never had a problem on campus. Gamedays aren't even that bad now that AT&T installed all those new antennas in Kyle around the time of the okie lite game

AT&T set up mini towers all around Kyle. I have been able to get internet access during timeouts at the game.

Outside of the stadium, I've never had issues making or receiving calls on gameday.

depends on where you are calling.
I have ATT.. Calling DC results in about 10 drops in 20 minutes.. My best friend and I are so used to it that whomever initiated the call simply dials back.
Coverage is bumpy in my apartment and great on campus or work

Did you have to pay for the Ethernet tower?

I have had several proiders in town and have been with AT&T the longest. They ALL have hit & miss spots. When I had sprint (years ago) and couldnt get my phone to work in my office I was actually told by their C.S. dept that they didnt guarantee service inside of buildings.

AT&T has its own problems. I used to have that same dropped call problem around emerald forest and they act surprised when you report it. They also act surprised when I say "Hey, I just got a voicemail but my phone never rang!" These things are rare but annoying. I don't have the dropped call issue at emerald forest pkwy & 6 anymore.

So I guess it depends on your expectations. If the above are familiar to you then don't expect it to get any better. AND... there are certain times of the day such as when classes let out that students overwhelm the network getting on the phone to let their BFF's know some critical piece of information that will result in potential difficulty in making a call.

Long time with AT&T. In town coverage was ok for the most part. Outside town was terrible. You lose the signal a lot when on the road. Verizon has better coverage for this area.

AT&T is good here.

Verizon is not.

Remember If you have any kind of foil backed roof it will kill your signal Im your house.

I have that both on the roof and walls as a moisture barrier and the phone works at my house. Whey my inlaws had verizon it didnt.

I think some this depends on the phone too though. I have had smartphones for the past 8 years.

AT&T is marginal at best. Their data signal is ALWAYS slower (even in the middle of town), even if you don't have trouble making regular phone calls. You also won't be able to send texts, emails or make calls on game day if you're anywhere near Kyle Field or campus in general, but you can still use your iPhone to weigh down the napkins when the wind picks up near your tailgate spot, so its not necessary to leave it at the house or anything.

Verizon has excellent coverage throughout the region. They have more repeaters and access points, primarily because of the numerous state and federal contracts they have to provide uninterrupted communication. Also, (and maybe more importantly) I can send a text message and call out during Aggie Football games from inside Kyle Field.

When my contract is up, ATT better have great 4G coverage in the area & the same or better pricing (verizon is currently $30 for 4GB, ATT is $25 for 2GB)

I had an at&t business and a verizon personal. I got much better service and coverage with verizon. My company finally dropped at&t and went with verizon. Only place I have ever had trouble with verizon was at CS walmart

Verizon is better. Plus when at the deer lease in hearne I can pick up cell/internet service, while while AT&T bethren do not.

I only have a basic cell phone, not 3G or 4G, and T-Mobile gives me a strong signal everywhere. I have no experience with the others.

It's just a cell phone, not a computer, not a camera, I cannot surf the Internet - it just makes phone calls. It's cheap!

Lockett the mini tower was free. They sent me a letter that I had to take into the store.

As you can see, everyone above has their opinion...as do I. I worked for both AT&T and Verizon locally for a combined 11 years. I know each has strengths and weaknesses, and each work better or worse in selected spots. However, Verizon's data speed is superior. Verizon's customer service is superior (check out Consumer Reports' summary for them yourself. Verizon is always at the top and AT&T at the bottom.)

To some people, dropping a call every day is acceptable. Not for me. Verizon rarely drops calls. My experience with each company showed me what each company really cared about, and Verizon really focused on having quality networks.

BTW...I no longer work for either company.

It all varies where you go, but in my experience:
Verizon > Sprint > AT&T

Never tried T-Mobile because I heard from people who had them that their coverage was equal to or worse than AT&T.

Admittedly, AT&T has gotten better, especially on-campus. 3-4 years ago (pre-iPhone to first year or so of iPhone) their coverage on campus was horrible -- inside a building you'd see 4-5 bars but drop calls and have poor quality on the ones that didn't drop. Fortunately they put up more towers around campus and that has improved.

Let me put it this way: the iPhone being AT&T exclusive for so long was the number one reason I didn't get an iPhone for the longest time.

For the years I was using AT&T I just thought cell phones weren't perfect and dropping calls were just part of having one.

I've been with Verizon for almost 2 years and can honestly say I've dropped less than 5 calls. The data speed is way faster with Verizon.

I never had any problems with AT&T but my experience with Verizon has been much better.
