Another big debate!

It seems that alot of places get potato salad and cole slaw in 5 gallon buckets.

I wish somebody had it homemade.

Most definately not C&J's. That stuff is terrible. GO to Fargo's. On Texas Ave, just south of HWY 21, west side of Texas. No eating area, food is to go, but you'll thank me later. I would check hours for Saturday, or make sure they arent catering an event.

If you're coming from Houston area, Mallett Bros. in Navasota is the best in my opinion. Owned and operated by Aggies.

Mr. Jonny's off of Woodville Road in Bryan.

Coming north bound off HWY 6 take the Woodville exit and then go across HWY 6 like your heading back to Texas Ave. Right after you cross the bridge go to the right into the store parking lot and you will see his Big Pit and Trailer.

Just tried Fargo's yesterday, definitely good stuff. Been a long time Martin's fan, probably go there because I can sit down and its closer.

I've never understood the hatred of C&J's. I love it, their ribs are fantastic.

Meh, they're mediocre. Some days are better than others. The consistency between locations does not exist. It's not bad, but certainly not in contention for best BBQ in B/CS, IMO.

Had Martins for the first time last week.

Terrible service.
Trash on every table that had not been cleaned.

VERY mediocre food.

The only thing they have going is that its cheap as hell and they are historic.

People need to be honest here. I've eaten at most of the places that will get listed here. NONE of them are "bad". In my opinion, they are all pretty good and, as all good restaurants should try to do, approach the cuisine with a different style. Now I can rate the styles as to how _I_ like them but that should have no bearing on how YOU will like them.

I believe a truly BAD restaurant will not make it long term because it is hard to maintain a clientele who enjoy under cooked, over cooked, poor quality ingredients, obviously dirty conditions, etc.

If you head southwest of here toward Lake Somerville (and I'm sorry I can't remember the road) you will drive past a roadhouse called "Mayberts." The owner is related to Mike Tyson, for whatever that is worth. Fantastic, fantastic barbecue. About a 20 minute hike from BCS.

I had forgot about Fargos. Only reason is they are cash only and its rare i have cash on me.

Some will roll their eyes over this, but here's a vote for Rudy's. They've been consistently good every time we go in there.

I vote for Church Street, although they aren't always consistent in quality. Most days the food is great though.

the food snobs/chain haters that is mybcs will never admit to that
but yes..Rudys is just as good if not better ( and more consistent) than your run of the mill C&J's, JCodys, Martins, Church Street, Mallett Brothers ect ect ect.

Junek's if you're south, Fargo's if your north.

Now my mouth is watering for some Junek's pork loin. Yum!

Mr. Johnny's or Fargo's for the best!

Also agree with whoever said Rudy's was consistently good! Not too shabby for a chain.

The problem with Martin's is that their service is absolutely TERRIBLE. It's honestly heartbreaking. You try to go and support a local, long running BCS business and you end up having to sit at a table that has the previous person's food still on it, have an empty drink for over 20 minutes, and wait 45 minutes for a brisket plate.

Hire some help. Your food is great but I don't want to wait almost an hour for food that's already been cooked and is just being kept warm.

Agreed! Even if you call in an order to go, you STILL have to wait 30 minutes while they fix it AFTER you get there. Not good service at all.

I am a very long term fan of Mabert's, but I didn't know they were still doing BBQ.....Mabert's is Mabel and Robert Anderson, they got excellent ribs, and the best jukebox in a 5 county area, if you like blues. I ate there for the first time the 2nd day they were open.....got knicknamed "The Rib Man" for my prodigious appetite that day. They are fine people..... it has been 2 years since I stopped by and at that time, Robert had been pretty sick. I need to drive out and check on them. BTW, Mabel was a long time school teacher in Houston. At one point, they lived across the street from one of my guitar heroes: Clarence Gatemouth Brown. I discovered ZZ Hill listening to their jukebox, way back.

Why ask a question like this? Everyone has different tastes so you will get different answers. Go out and try it for your self.

I've had to wait on to-go orders at Martin's. Never really bothered me. Grab a beer, sit at the counter and visit with people there. It's what the place is all about.
