Put this down to synchronicity.
It's (trying to be) fall.
They are advertizing the new fall Texas Reds.
I'm packing to move away for ever (like as not).

So, I have to stop loading up as it is raining. It's suppertime.
I have an end of sourdough, probably one of the last from Albertson's that wants garlic and toasting.

So, my menu is Italian tonight. A nice Bolognese using the last of some Italian sausage from Canton (I have a great middle sister).

Been a night, so, rather than beer, and rather than pack it up, I open my last Chianti.
It's a Ruffino Riserva Ducale--one of my favorites from when JJ Ruffino ran his stores.

And, it's tasty--not surprising, I buy wine I like, woohoo, rocket surgery.

But, it got me thinking (and, if not en vino veritas, then in vino loquiatare <g>

So, myBSC, what are your faves in la vin rouge?

Riserva Ducale is my red for Italian.
Driftwood Cabernet for steak, with Llano Cab a close second.
Turkey and game bird--Ste Geneive Pinon Noir
Burgers/cookout, Llano Granite Red

My two Ports are Sandeman and the Llano. Unless a tawny is available, then it's arm wrestling--but Grahams, Dow, then Sandeman.

What say you, the winos I know? <g>

I posted a picture of Mad Dog 20/20 - whether or not it was humorous is debatable, but it was not offensive, intrusive or trudging on any other poster's rights - but it was deleted.

Wow.
Perhaps, Clucky, is was not a fine Italian wine?
(Might bet that there were some worries about ™ infringement; that, or it got voted down by one of the viewers)

Not being around will reduce how current and local I can be.

So, it will be like when I go visit the metroplex board--I don't "get" but maybe 25% of what they talk about--scans about like google translate of drunken Sanskrit to me.

Something tells me that my moving to the metroplex will not improve that comprehension by much more than 30% <sigh>

The whole business of "dry" precincts was annoying 33 years ago; cannot imagine that it will be much better with three decades of gentrification overlaid upon it.

Which reminds, I need to go to Jess' store for a last stick in town. And, possibly, crack open my Sandeman Port rather than drive that 200 miles (thought I could not return the thread from Drift, di'n'cha?).

Where Clucky and I are from, Mad Dog IS a fine wine! Aged and chilled for 3-5 hours, consumed like oxygen, outside of "The Lodge"....

FTR, I drink most labels of Zinfandel and Petite Syrah when the temperature gets below 100. I lost interest in cabs and pinots as everyone else gained it, and Love Russian River and Carneros area products of all kinds.

Charlie Mac....you might check this one out. One of my favorites, introduced to me by my Australian bankers:

Henry's Drive 2006 Dead Letter Shiraz

Mad Dog and Night Train Express are the lowest end offerings of the Brothers Gallo. For an inexpensive ($7-10 depending on sales) but rich & tasty red try another Gallo Bros wine..
Dancing Bull Zinfindel. It is really smooth and really good. And I am not ashamed to be unsophisticated.

My Aussie Shiraz for a good while was Bin 507, but, a bunch of places are going to stop carrying it, now that Foster's Group has bought them out.

Driftwood is supposed to be coming out with a Zin this next season, which will likely be quite tasty.

One of the things I will miss most, sequestered off in the metroplex, will be being so far from all these neat little wineries around here (although I'll admit to mostly associating them with trips to other places and not by name; like the one outside Independence, the one on 362, and so on.
