A friend of mine is very involved in animal rescue and works with the highest kill shelters in the state, saving dogs hours and sometimes minutes before they would be "put down".
For the first time I agreed to temporarily foster a dog in order to save its life until a permanent home could be found.
This dog (shelter named her Alice) is truly special. Although they said she was a stray, she is housebroken, comes when called and walks perfectly on a leash. She is a year old, approx 30 pounds, but is sort of the shape of a skinny labrador if it was shrunk to 30 lbs. The shelter says she is a shepherd mix. She has reddish brown fur with black in it and white markings. Her head is sort of the shape of a dachshund, but sized proportionate to her body.
She has been around two little yappy dogs and one sleepy labrador retriever and has been totally fine. She is submissive and a little nervous right at first, but quickly warms up to people. She was surrounded by about six kids at the park and was very sweet with all of them.
This is a great dog for someone who wants a big dog, but for practical purposes would be better with a smaller dog. (smaller house/yard, rental restrictions on pet size, food cost, etc.) She seems like a big dog, but is not!
She likes to sit where ever I am and if she wants me to pet her, she comes over and puts her head underneath my hand.
SEE PICS BELOW PLEASE!
And, fyi, the dog went through all the usual channels at the shelter (being held to see if an owner would claim, being put up for adoption, then finally being put on the kill list)
The rescue group requires an application regarding the living situation (asks questions about people and pets living in the home) to make sure the dog won't be taken to a pound again if a landlord doesn't actually allow pets, etc.
AS WELL AS A $50 FEE, paid to the rescue organization
(This fee goes to shelter fees to bail animals out)
Thank you so much for reading!
I know we will find this great dog a wonderful home here in Aggieland!

***EDIT - SHE HAS HAD TWO "ACCIDENTS" INSIDE THE HOUSE, SO SHE IS NOT FULLY HOUSEBROKEN YET. WE ARE WORKING ON IT, AND SHE SEEMS TO BE GETTING IT.***

I would take her if I could!
