My coworkers and I had a discussion at work today on what is the original Sodalak's location. I remember hearing the story that a couple owned the original and one was given the restaurant in a divorce. The other then opened their own restaurant basically serving the same food. However, I can't seem to remember if the Somerville or Snook location was first.

Can anybody help and if I don't have the facts straight please fill in those details as well?

My assumption is that it goes Somerville, Snook, Bryan, and then College Station with the Snook, Bryan and College Station locations all being owned by the same person.

The Bryan and College Station locations are not owned by the same person as the Snook location. The B/CS locations are owned by the son of the Snook location owner.

I do believe that one in Somerville was first however.

Sommervile location was "Country Inn" and in the old General Store.

My rememory is of being told that they always picked a location near a meat packer, thus a location near a rail yard. Country Inn opened a location in Brenham, which was not the same character as the old general store at all (if the same price). That's twenty years' ago now, too.

I remember when the location on 60 there in Snook had the sign changed--at the time, it seemed like it was an "upstart" or "wannabe" until they started branding the Sodolak name, rather than the restaurant name.

Now, I'm trying to remember what was in the 21 & Bypass location originally. I know Cliff George had a restaurant in there before Sodolak moved in; but it had been something before that, too.

The first was the Country Inn in Somerville. The couple divorced and she got the restraunt and he opened the one in Snook. The Country Inn has since closed, not sure if it has reopened somehwere else.
