Someone told me they had eaten at a restaurant on th top floor of rudder tower and said it was pretty good. I've lived here since 1994 and never heard of it. Is it really good? What's the food like? Prices? Im assuming its open to the public and not just a student thing?

You are speaking about the University Club. Here is the link: http://universityclub.tamu.edu/
My wife and I had our Wedding Rehearsal Dinner there. It was a great location with a perfect view, especially for the out-of-towners who got to get an instant orientation to the area.

My adviser took me there for lunch right before graduation. I remember it being really good but that was over 10 years ago.

It used to be a private club but was opened to the public several years ago. Best view in town by far and the food is pretty good. It is a must to check their hours before you go--they are only open for lunch some days. Great place for private party/reception/dinner. Enjoy.

Do I have to dress up to go eat here? Seems a tad fancy

It used to be open to everyone, even students. Back in the early 80's I would eat there with my parents. (Dad was a grad student) Of course, we also would get ice cream at the creamery as well . . . .

Its a nice place to eat. You don't have to dress up, but you will probably feel out of place if you don't at least go business casual.

I'd agree, business casual, and make sure you step into the bar/lounge area for a birds eye view of Kyle Field! The food is nice, limited to what they are serving that day, so call ahead for sure. Staff is WONDERFUL. Also ask about methods of payment accepted, there was a time they couldn't accept cash, as I recall.

So is it open to the public or do you have to be a member? Years back it used to be public then it closed (or went private). Anyway I didn't know it was open again as a restaurant. Back in the day it was a "cafeteria style" lunch place. How is it now?

It is a good place to eat before an OPAS event. Your event ticket includes the parking.
The food it pretty good. It is a buffet. I thought the price was a little on the high side for the quality of the food but the experience was nice.

We went before an OPAS event and the food was horrible, not to mention $20 a person.

It is currently open to the public, but faculty can make reservations, and if they are booked up, you won't get a table. Call ahead and make sure they have a table... they should, I've never seen it full.

University Club Changing From A Weekly To A Daily Menu

Though still serving buffet style, the University Club is changing its menu from weekly to daily. University Dining officials say the daily menu changes will be posted on the club’s website. The University Club is open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and offers a daily buffet for $12.95 per person. Reservations are accepted, but not required and special group accommodations are available. The club is also available for special events and private functions. Contact the University Club at (979) 845-2582 or visit http://universityclub.tamu.edu for more information or to schedule an event.

ps: I have eaten there recently and the food was excellent. Give the restaurant a try.

We recently used the University Club to host a formal dinner for a math conference we hosted at A&M. While planning the meal, we learned that they recently changed management and chefs so I imagine that if you haven't eaten there within the last few months, things have probably changed. Personally, I enjoyed the dinner they offered us, though it was a tad pricey per person.

I worked at Uclub for three years when I was a student. It is open to the public for lunch hours 11am till 2pm. For dinner, you would have to schedule a reception which is a little bit pricey unless you have a group of 20+. The food is the best quality you can get on campus. Very clean, great cooks, and a proud student staff when I worked there. When MSC closed MSC Dining Services made some changes to Uclub so I'm not sure how it's doing anymore. But it's a GREAT atmosphere.. the view is so beautiful. You can dress business casual and fit right in. Hope this helps!
