Does anyone know of any students that mow yards for $20? It's getting to be that time of year again where I need to find someone who is going to do my yard for the next few months - I don't do contracts with companies. Anyone have any recommendations?

My recommendation is for you to adjust your expectation.

I'm sure there are plenty of folks who would mow your lawn for $20...... if your lot is 1000 square feet or less.

how often do you want it mowed? i'll do it for $20 if it's small and you want it done weekly but if the yard is big and you want it done once every 2 week then no. the long thick grass becomes hard on a mower and the clippings get out of control after too long. but i'd consider it. give me the details

I'm sure you could find a young person, perhaps in Middle School or High school who would like to make some extra money. If your yard is not to big $20 is reasonable!

Lawn Mowing Companies have done a great job normalizing the $35-$45 minimum rate of doing a yard, much more depending on the size. And that makes you forget that there are kids who can get out there and do literally exactly the same thing they do for much less. Just talking about mowing, edging and clean up.

The only difference between the company and kid, if we're just talking about mowing and edging, is the overhead. Also, I'm obviously not talking about yards with immaculate landscaping which is going to require a more experienced crew. But the vast majority of yards in this town can be done with pretty much the basic mow and weed eating.

Folks, I was mowing yards as a kid in the late 80s getting paid $20 a yard. You could also get a can of coke for 50 cents, but as you know those times are long gone.

How you could sleep at night after paying some poor fool $20 to mow your yard is beyond me.

I pay a 13 year old 20 bucks to mow my lawn. I am thankful and so is he. Its a win-win.

I sleep very well at night knowing its basically just walking around the yard for 45 minutes.

Yeah-dv a 13 year old! No way an adult is going to do that. Most people here charge 30 and up.

hell, if i were a student and it took less than an hour, i'd do it.

I think $20 is very reasonable.... for an hour's worth of work - that's more then most college kids or even out of college young professionals make an hour.... basic mowing and weed eating of a normal sized yard - $20 seems very fair.

I pay an off duty firefighter $25. During the growing season he comes once a week to mow, weedeat and edge. I am very picky and I've not been disappointed. He provides all of the equipment. He also has the best price I have found.

I would rather an adult take care of my yard - much better on my sprinkler system heads. They don't get chopped up.

I ran over a sprinkler head back when I was mowing yards at the age of 12... that was an expensive lesson that has never been revisited cost me a whole days pay...

Still looking too. Would need once a week work come July/August if interested.

My neighbors boy is a freshman (9th grade) , I'll ask him if he would want to next time I see him

If you do get some 13 yr old to mow it for $20 then...

1) don't complain about the quality of the job
2) don't expect them to pay for damages done (see above post)
3) do provide water and/or snack while they are there
4) don't complain about the quality of the job
5) don't ask them to weed your flower beds while they are there without paying more
6) don't complain about the quality of the job
7) don't ask them to take your trash cans to the curb without paying more
8) do tip them at the end of the mowing season for doing a good job
9) don't complain about the quality of the job
10) do remember that professional lawn services have overhead like insurance, vehicles and equipment costs that the 13 year old doesn't have

and above all else.....

DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE JOB DONE!! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!

Other than that...by all means; hire the 13 year old.

Are you supplying the mower and weedeater?

If you have taken on the responsibility of owning a home, you should be responsible enough to take care of your own yard - unless you are independently wealthy, retired or disabled.

I'm interested. I'm thinking $30 though, I'll mow and weedeat front and backyards.

I'm currently a Senior Turfgrass major and have golf course maint. experience. I'm a hard worker and plan on staying in town over the summer.

We don't like mowing and weeding the yard. The son is currently too young to do this. So we pay a HS kid to do it for us. Why is it wrong to pay someone to do something you don't like doing?

I don't care. it gets done. A kid can take his girlfriend out with the money and I don't have to mow the yard
