Any suggestions on where to get the best deal on a propane exchange?

It is finally time to start doing some serious grilling again!!!

TIA

Lowes in Bryan is a little over $18.

The Valero on Tarrow St, just north of the Hilton, was a little over $16 last week.

If your tank hasn't expired( stamped date on handle/ tank) then take it to Sharp or one of the other actual propane vendors, not the drop off sites. The vendors will give you more pounds per tank than the swap places. I had mine filled at the store next to Ducky's in Bryan last fall for about $18.
And serious grillin' involves charcoal, btw. Propane is for fryers.

toolshed- I completely agree; I use charcoal mostly, but it is nice to turn on the gas for some quick chicken breasts or burgers.

Thanks again...

Off the subject a little, but I want a smoker. It doesn't need to be huge, but any suggestions on one and what type of wood do you like?

I'm pretty sure Academy is probably the cheapest in town.

HEB's is either $15 or $16 and they give you 17 pounds vs the 15 that Blue Rhino will.

Academy was only 15 bucks a tank, I do believe.

As for smokers... Get a Big Green Egg, if you can afford it.

I may be wrong but I think we got ours filled at Sevciks or somewhere by them maybe?? We had a couple from the different exchange places that weren't full. We got a better deal taking the tank in and getting it filled.

I used to get bottles filled at the U-Haul at Texas and 2818. It has been my experience that it is cheaper to get a bottle filled that it is to have it replaced.

I go through a HUGE amount of propane boiling crawfish at the restaurant and have found the best place to go to be Brazos Valley Welding on 2818. They charge by the pound instead of charging to fill the entire tank. You can take it when you think it is getting low and not have to pay the full amount if there is some left. Saves me a bunch over time.
It is almost always cheaper to fill than to change out.

In a pinch, CVS is $20 to trade.

If you actually care about saving money, just go get the tank filled back up at a propane filling place.

The exchanges are WAY WAY WAY more expensive.

Sevciks Shell Station will fill it (Business hours M-F 9-5), not very convenient for weekend grillers.

The UHAUL on Texas/2818 - They will fill it if it is not raining.

The exchange bottles are a rip off. Anyone who grills a lot knows that.
