No reservations, but just go and hang out. They are always packed. As I stated before, if a local tex-mex is slow (terms of sales per sq ft), you better emulate the freshness and variety of Chuy's. If not, the writing is on the wall.
Yes there is a 6% charge for "containers"...although I don't necessarily agree with it, it is at least valid unlike the "parties of 6 or more will charged 18% gratuity"(or whatever high number it may be)
IMO, to-go customers should see a reduction in their bill if anything. Some places even do this. There are less overhead costs required to feed to-go customers and these should be passed down to the customer.
I can't believe people get upset about six cents on the dollar. For a couple of entrees with tax, the bill is what? $20-25? So you have to add $1.20-1.50 to the bill; it's not a big deal.
you're supposed to tip in To Go too... they go through work to get your order right, and accurate because they only get one shot unlike being actually in the restaurant eating where they can send it back.
I have been t Chuy's in Houston numerous times and feel it is average at best; jalapeno sauce is good, their use of Hatch green chilis is good... no restaurant is worth an hour plus wait
I agree with some of the other posts. We waited 45 minutes on Sunday and I would never go there again if there was any wait at all. It was good, but nothing special. the only thing I thought even stood out from any of the other chain Mexican restaurants was the salsa, which was really fresh. I definitelly don't think it was as good as Pappasitas or Lupe Tortillas, which may be why we never went there when we lived in Houston.
I think my expectations may have been high from all the chatter, but I just don't get it at all.
We went on Friday night. Thought the Texas martinis while we waited were great. The wait really was too long. Probably would not wait more than 20 minutes in the future. Loved all the sauces and the chicka-chicka boom-boom was very good. I am sure the wait will lessen after it has been open for a while since there are so many good Tex-Mex restaurants.
I like Chuys better than La Botana. However, it is comparing apples to oranges since Chuys is a Tex-Mex restaurant. What I liked even better was the price, selection, and quality of the children's meals. They are all $3.95 and includes both drink and dessert. We paid significantly less for a family of 5 than we usually do at On The Border, Ninfa's, Abuelo's or Los Cucos.
It's funny to hear people calling Chuy's overpriced. I think it is about right for what you get. Much of the love for Chuy's is the atmosphere and jalapeno ranch salsa. It's not like you're paying Veritas, Republic, or Christopher's prices so don't expect their food either. It's a middle of the road Tex-Mex place with a little something that makes it unique. Go in expecting that and you should be fine.
And I agree, an hour wait anywhere is not worth it unless there is space at the bar and friends to hang out with while waiting at the bar.

Ate there last night, not impressed. It was okay for the price but overall it was rather bland and not any better than the other places in town and probably would have been better off going to Ninfas instead of waiting an hour.
