I've already got the Antique Rose Emporium and Old Baylor on the list but I was hoping for something a little different, maybe a little funky. Thoughts?

Well, on 390 you have some choices. Heading west from old Baylor there is Gay Hill which has a splendid mix of old and new. St. Peter's church--to the south--has two historical markers.

Go to the north, under the single-lane railroad bridge and there are some cool roads. the first goes through the old, commercial, part of Gay Hill--funky if old dilapidated buildings fit your bill.

If you head north, all roads head over to lake Sommerville, and eventually turn left or right. All sorts of interesting places along the way of most of those roads. Take Roads of Texas and a mapping GPS.

West out of Brenham, there are all sorts of quaint things to see in that area heading towards Burton. South of 290 there are some fascinating bits of rang and ag 'stuff' out there--if with varying amounts of road shoulder to stop on.

If you go east on 390, take a left there when it turns right to become La Bahia road. That takes you into William Penn, which has some scenic value.

Thanks Mac! Would you happen to know exactly where this single lane railroad bridge is? And is it accessible, like to get close and perhaps walk on or at least pretty close to it?

From College Station...Take Highway 60 to Somerville, turn left on Highway 36 N, Go through Somerville and enter into Washington County, approximately 2 miles, turn right on FM 390..the bridge is about .2 miles down FM 390.

Yes you can get close to the bridge b/c FM 390 runs under it. ;-) Should be plenty of room to pull off the roadway and park beside it. It's really neat.

Burton is a quaint little town with an old cotton gin. Some old buildings and such.

Chappell Hill has a few cool old buildings.

What are you wanting to take pictures of?

that bridge isn't the kind you'd want to climb on.

there's a church just before you get to the bridge - don't know if you could park there.

AgFan is correct, there's a small church on the east side of the bridge. On the other side of the bridge, there is wide spot on the southside of 390. There's also where the auto shop is, which can be handy to park.

It's for portraits actually. I was just looking for interesting/not the usual places to use as backdrops.

I grew up not far from this place. Although when I was a kid, it wasn't restored and we thought it was haunted.

Wow! I've never seen that mansion before in all the times I've been to Brenham. I'll definitely keep that in mind for later! Thanks guys!

+1 for Chappell Hill. The old buildings on the main street would be a neat backdrop.

There are some interesting old buildings a couple of blocks south of the main town square. I've seen them used as backdrops before.
