Here's a quick note from John Flynn, owner of What's the Buzz:
What started as a hobby in my garage has evolved into a desire to offer truly fresh coffee beans to the Bryan/College Station community. Over the years I've been in pursuit of a better cup of coffee, which has let me experiment with various brew methods, and enjoy various beans from different roasters (typically from different states). In 2008 I began home roasting, and I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of fresh roasted coffee. I began to experiment with beans from all the major growing regions and with different roast profiles. In a selfish effort to improve my roasting skills I took an introductory to commercial roasting class in Minneapolis in the Spring of 2008. That was the hook and the beginning of my goal to bring fresh roasted coffee to Bryan/College Station.
Immediately after the class I began developing my business plan and within a few months I was roasting on my very own Probat L12 drum roaster. I experimented with about 700 lbs. of beans...giving away a pound here and there to just about anyone I ran into. I began selling my fresh beans in September '08, and in November '08 I opened my roastery just off Harvey Mitchell Pkwy. at the corner of Valley View and Longmire in suite 326 of the College Station Business Park.
I have two tickets to the Taste of Home Cooking School next Tuesday. I'll be giving them away to a fan on my Facebook page, so be sure to head over there for your chance to win! Just reply to this thread once you've become a fan!
I sell to the public at the roastery M-F 10-6, I'm at the Brazos Valley Farmers' Market in Bryan most Saturdays, and I have beans at Village Foods and Brazos Natural Foods. I also have an on-line presence at whatsthebuzzcoffee.com and have a wholesale/restaurant division.
I'm looking forward to being a sponsor at mybcs.com. Remember, fresher is better!
