Are there products or services that you can not find in the local area?? Are you driving out of town to purchase products or services?

People are always looking for ideas on what types of businesses are needed in the local area....

The Brazos Valley Small Business Development Center will offer ONE FREE Admission to our "Starting Your Own Business" Seminar for the person who can come up with the most popular choice for type of small business needed in the Brazos Valley. We are looking for a type of business not a particular "franchise".

running store

I've always thought a DIY dog wash would be a great business- similar to a coin operated car wash. Supply the shampoos/conditioners, people bring their own towels if they wish, have commercial doggie dryer available, etc. I've heard of one at the Stars & Stripes Car Wash over at 2818 & Villa Maria, but it is way out of the way for me.

Because I am a mom, I have to suggest more restaurants with playscapes. Joes Crab Shop has a playground, even regular restaurants that are here already putting in some time of entertaintment for the kids while the food is being prepared I think would be successful. I am always thinking about going somewhere like this, but you can only go to McDonalds and ChickFila so many times without getting sick of it!

Also, a 24 hour child care center. Good childcare is hard to find as it is, but most have normal operating hours but not all parents work those normal hours. Even for emergencies to have a place that you can just do a drop off if you are in a bind would also be successful I think!

Specialty woodworking store that'll have veneers, tools, and exotic woods. I'm tired of having to drive to Austin, Houston, etc. when I want to make something.

Dave & Busters.

Along the same lines. Something adult entertainment, based more on young adults and not so much the kids.

Swensen's or equvalent. Yes, there are plenty of great hamburger/sandwich restaurants and ice cream shops, but my family misses the Big Burger Deal, and the Missus misses Her some Sticky Chewy Chocolate!

running store. The dog wash sounded good too. I don't want to mess with a groomer or groomer prices.

^ THIS. I know we're getting a Panera, but I would kill for an Einstein's. Sorry, but BB doesn't cut it for bagels.

A comedy club. Went to them all the time in Austin and Houston. You sit down, could possibly eat but not have to but have drinks served and watch comedians on a stage try to make it to the big time. It would be fun, good place to take a date, or your wife. I had wished that they would have turned the Queen into a comedy club, that would have been cool.

Carrabas

High End Seafood Restaurant

Higher End Sports Bars (BJs Brewery etc)

A DECENT PUBLIC GOLF COURSE (Pecan Lakes, Bluebonnet, and Bryan are not decent). Something decent for 40-50 bucks on a Saturday.

Along the same lines, I think a specialty pet store. Petsmart and Petco don't cut it in a town of this size. I really think a locally owned pet store would do great.

Oh and a The Children's Place store. I'm tired of driving to the Woodlands to shop there.

I wish they would tear down Post Oak mall and make an open air mall with nicer/higher end shops.

A water park would be great!

Also, a Pep Boys on the east side of Bryan would be nice!

Red Robin Hamburger

Also, I am looking for a senior apartment complex (50+) for my mother-in-law. The two nicest ones in B/CS both have waiting lists of 100 or more. That would be a birds nest on the ground for some investor I think.

A second vote for specialty woodworking store. I hate mail ordering specialty wood or having to take a whole day to go to Austin or Houston just for a decent piece of walnut or cherry in a larger size.

What about an Imax? This town could use a couple of screens.

Comedy club! I remember when Margarita Rocks was called something else (early 90's) and we enjoyed standup comics. That would be awesome again.
Also, doubt much money would be made, but I've always thought B/CS could use a BMX track for young people.

A first class motorcycle shop that sold and serviced Ducati, MV Agusta, Bimota, Moto Guzzi, Benelli, Mondial and Aprilia motorcycles....with a top notch tuner, free expresso and biscotti, a 6' by 10' poster of Sophia Loren on the wall, and a 2.4 mile road racing track nestled onto 120 acres behind the shop, designed to have the same layout as Mugello.

But I would settle for a good bagel shop.....

- A nice waterpark like NRH20 in North Richland Hills. Not too big, but very nice and something folks would drive to from an hour away or so.

- A zoo would be nice, although we're probably too small. But, Alexandria, La. has a nice one and I think they're smaller than us, so maybe it could happen.

- I think a high end golf driving range could be successful, perhaps combine it with some other sporting activities like batting cages.

- Pedestrian malls are always nice. San Antonio has the River Walk, New Orleans has their riverfront, and there are other examples.

- I'd like to see more craftsman-oriented businesses. A custom glassworks would be nice, somebody who could make custom lamps, chandeliers, stain glass windows, etc.

"I'd like to see more craftsman-oriented businesses. A custom glassworks would be nice, somebody who could make custom lamps, chandeliers, stain glass windows, etc."

Well problem solved for you on this request.

Foster Glass on Old College is the best in custom glass work in this area. No I don't work for them.

They did some custom work for me with some imported glass, custom fit and metaling that is amazing.

Not cheap. But their labor is love for sure.

Thank you, Bobolo! I had not heard of them. Will be checking them out soon.
