My son's options for someone to watch his dog next week just fell through - any suggestions on dog boarding in the area?

Most vets do it anywhere from $15 to $30 + THey may require other things if you don't take the dog there like shot records or an exam (and fee for it)

He's going to talk to his vet today. The kennel link above looks really nice, but the only price listed was $50 per day on weekends - a bit much for a college kid to pay. I told him I would cover it for him (they are going on vacation with us which is why they need a pet sitter), but I'm not paying $50 per day.

Aggieland Animal Health Center on Wellborn is also good for short-notice boarding, but will run $20-30/day. I haven't used Lovan Care at Texas and University, but have had them recommended several times.

Briarcrest Vetinary Clinic and Southwood Valley Animal Hospital are both great places (SVAH cheap too!)

I just found a receipt from BYD and I paid $40 for 2 dogs - you may want to call and verify the price.

Southwood Valley is the best price, but they are often full. Marden is a bit out of the way, but they are great and always have room.

My advice: don't board. Your dog will be happier and healthier at home. Interview some pet-sitters (I have one I can recommend, PM me) and keep your dog in their own happy environment.

West Villa Maria Vet Clinic boards.

lock your gates if the dog is left at home, so many pups go missing this time of year due to wind, yard services, careless pet sitters

This. We hire a trustworthy high school student to come house/dog sit. It costs about $20 a day. He likes getting out of his house and we like keeping our dogs at home and having someone watch the place when we are away. I wouldn't go any other route.

I would suggest a pet sitter as well. When I go out of town, I put out a self-feeder (my dogs are good about only eating when they are hungry), then have pet sitter/friend come by and check to make sure they still have four legs and water. :-)

We've always used Dr. Bond's group at Southwood Valley but they are no longer boarding dogs (I think as of June). (They are pretty cheap too)

Going to try Aggieland Pet Zone next month- have heard good things about them (not cheap)

I've boarded at BYD, which was great BUT they are kinda far out there and in the opposite direction of where we are going. (moderately priced)

I've also talked with Phil at Phil's Pet Sitting and was really impressed with her (although we never actually used her).

I try to get a pet sitter, as well, but sometimes cannot get one and need to board. I use All Pets on Rock Prairie --my "kids" love going there ! (all 6 of them)
