I'm doing research on turf grass and I found that Texas Tech has Turffalo grass. Does anyone know if A&M has developed a grass that is great in Texas? (I'd much prefer Aggie grass than Tech grass if possible)

The one good thing about Tech grass is that it comes with it's own constant source of fertilizer. Tech pooh.

Dr. Duble (Turfgrass prof.), in conjunction with others at Kyle Field, have developed their own strain (is that even right) of St. Augustine grass. Way better than that crap at Tceh.

there are a lot of factors that need to be considered, sun or shade, foot traffic, water requirements, how often do you want to mow, etc. one of my favorite grasses for look and performance is Tif Sport 419. This is the grass that A&M uses on it's sports fields. It is finer textured than St. Augustine, requires less water, more mowing, and it requires full sun. It has better foot traffic durability. I have attatched a link so that you can sort through some of the other grasses and make a more informed decisions.

the second gentleman, Dr. Mcafee works in Dallas with the extension service. I worked at the same facility with him back in 2006 and he is a very knowledgeable and nice individual.

Dr. James Read at Tamu extension in Dallas area developed Reveille Bluegrass. A cross between native Texas bluegrass and Kentucky bluegrass.


It is supposed to be shade tolerant like st Augustine, drought resistant like bermuda, and feel like a fescue or bluegrass.

Anyone know if it will thrive in College Station? It is available in seed and sod.

Where does one purchase the above mentioned grasses? Can I just call up All American and ask them to order me a couple pallettes?

Almost, they were working on that new grass in the Chem Lab yesterday. Not there yet!
