The new store is looking great. Hear they are starting to hire for the grocery side.

I've seen small town "malls" that aren't as big as that place

Anyone know if they are going to put in a gas island?

I hope they're going to put in a trolley to get from one side to the other. That place is MASSIVE.

Shopping/excercise at the same time is a win in my book!

They aren't using the entire thing for Wal-Mart and even quite a bit of the Wal-Mart space won't be for shoppers. Basically the Albertson's site will be Wal-Mart warehouse and small retail storefronts.

actually the albertsons is going to be divided into 3rds... 1/3 is incorporated into the walmart store, 1/3 is storage and 1/3 is additional retail..

I wonder how long that place is going to remain as neat and clean as it is now. In all seriousness, it's a very neat and clean store right now.

Cleanliness depends on hiring the right people.

I heard from someone "in the know" that they aren't using the actual space from Albertson's for Walmart's retail use at all. Some of it will be storage and the rest of it is up for lease. Last I looked they haven't knocked down the wall between the 2 stores, and I'm not sure that they're ever going to. Has anyone looked to see if the wall is still there lately? (I haven't driven by in a couple of weeks.)

Even if they don't use the Albertson's side for Walmart retail the space between the two was really large. It will be really cool.

they've already knocked the corner of the Albertson's and built the wall back a little further over.

Isn't this Wal Mart supposed to be the largest in Texas?
AgFan1999
How long do you want to ignore this user?
think so. Thought I heard like one of the 5 largest in the country? Could that be right?

I think I heard it was going to be one of the largest too.... namely because they have a standard plan for the super walmart's that are usually built (because usually its new construction) but since this was a retrofit they designed a new plan.

I don't think its the largest though.... seem to remember some in NY or California that were multiple story walmarts.

They are really doing an awesome job over there. Yes, there have been some hang ups but that is to be expected in construction.
If you have not been in the store in the past two weeks they have opened up a small section of the new grocery side, go by check it out. Also the tentative Grand Opening (no, the store will never be closing)is scheduled for June 3,if everything stays on schedule.
No, I don't work for them but if you have read any of the other walmart threads started you should know my status.

(Edited for spelling...forgive me this once,it has been a long Monday.)

I haven't heard anything about a gas station. Usually depends on bidders for the lots available. Looks like the only area available is between schlotsky's and churches.

And this.

Where do some of you people get your info?

FWIW, I ran in yesterday to get a few things and was absolutely LOST in how big they are. It's going to be great when it's done.

Go over and look, Barstool. The new portion of Walmart extends to where the corner of Albertson was. Drive down the road behind Walmart and you can see it more clearly.

Or, you can continue to be a jerk. Your choice. You don't have to strive to be rude on *every* thread.

This is more right than "1/3rd being used for retail".

Does it matter if the Walmart expands to include 1/3, 2/3 or the entire space between the existing buildings? It looks far better now than it did with the empty Alberton's building and the crapped out Walmart.

So the flowers, tomato plants, mulch, top soil and weed killer I bought from Wal Mart at prices lower than anywhere else in town were actually shipped to College Station from China????

WOW!!!

Or, maybe I'll just not believe everything I read on the internet.

The mulch I bought at Wal Mart was made in Conroe Texas.

I love BlueTeams' comments on this subject. He's hoping to steer people away from the new HEB that don't live in the immediate area. I hope it works.
Go WALMART! Everyone should want to shop there. HEB is all hype. Just a crowded grocery store. LOL

I rarely ever to to WM (SC anyhow) because it's so disorganized and the customers are...well....you know.... Let's just say that the place is the armpit of the universe....

Here's hoping that the new one is managed and maintained better than the Supercenter is.

Wal-mart is a "fun" place to go cause it has about everything. But generally it is a cheap version of everything. We got a new Wal-mart in Chattanooga I would shop at when we lived there about 2-3 years ago. We bought alot of stuff. Pretty much everything we bought there to this point is broken or not usable. The prices were nice but a few years later nothing lasts that SHOULD. I'll stick with HEB, Best Buy and Academy for about all and anything I need. I'm amazed so many people have this perception that walmart has the best prices ever. Most of the stuff they sell is a cheap version of the real thing only made for walmart. If you wanna buy things twice...go to Walmart

God, I love the ridiculousness of people when the subject of Wal Mart comes up.

The snobbery.
The misinformation.
The racism.
The class-ism.

Want to know what a person is truly like? Ask them about Wal Mart and you'll be shocked at what you hear. I'd bet most people don't even realize what they're saying about themselves.
