State Farm and Texas AgriLife Extension Service-Passenger Safety will be hosting a FREE car seat checkup event Saturday, May 1 from 8:30-Noon. This year the event will be held at the Bryan Towne Center (New Target).

The law changed September 1, 2009 and states "All children must be in an approved child safety seat until they are 8 years old, unless they are 4'9" tall". There is going to a BIG enforcement starting in June.

The child must be present and the parent or guardian needs to the know the child's weight.

Tell all your friends and come early!!!

My wife (outnumbered Mom) will be working this! Good program. Even if you're pretty sure everything's right, it doesn't hurt to have it checked by someone. It sure helped us!

You meant to say your wife will be "volunteering" her time there!!

It is a very important event that is a HUGE success because of so many VOLUNTEERS that want to make sure all the kiddos in our community are riding around SAFE!!!!

I went to this a couple of years ago. One of our seats was almost expired, and they gave us a new one for free! While our seats were installed correctly, the headrest on one son's booster needed to be raised. The volunteers told me that they had seen very few seats correctly installed (I felt like an all-star!).

My kids got a stuffed bear and I think some coloring things, and the people were all very nice to them.

I'd totally recommend going.

My husband and I will be going to this. We took a childbirth class in February and they told us that you could take your car seat to any fire or police station and that they would show you how to properly install the seat. Since we live close to a fire station, we went to that one. The firemen there told me that they no longer did that, but that the nurses at the hospital would install it for us when we left. A volunteer was the one who escorted us out, not a nurse, and she didn't know how to install it. She had to guess. So glad that they have events like this to offer us not only safety, but peace of mind.
